Would you let your 2 yr old be Gene Simmons for Halloween?

DH and I have differing opinions regarding it's appropriateness and what others might think.

Adam has picked the same KISS demon costume out of 2 different catalogs we've gotten in the mail.  He called it a punk rock skunk at first.  Then I told him it was the guy who sings Rock and Roll All Night, Party Every Day, and he was more into it.  We are not huge KISS fans in this house, but he loves that damn song.   Price not withstanding, would you buy the costume if your kid loved it?

And what would you think if a kid showed up to your house in it?

  • No, but I'm into cute costumes and Gene Simmons is not cute.  (:

  • Well, it's not like you have to put him in the platform boots, real leather, and give him fake blood for the tongue bit. ?And he's requesting it. ?You aren't forcing him to dress like that because you think it'd be funny or something.

Ace would be easier - afro wig and a black star on his eye LOL?

I don't see any harm really. ?It's halloween. ?*shrug*

    ?

  • I would think it was hilarious.  I'm probably a bit tacky, but I'd teach my kid to do the tongue and everything.  If it's what HE wants to be, I think it's adorable and would be a cute story down the road.
  • well, I love the idea. I am into it fully. so...do you hate jews, or what's the problem?

I thought we were past the days of moms and pops decrying them to be devil's music!

  • I'm the one who thinks it would be funny.  He already knows how to make rock fingers, and music is definitely his thing.  DH thinks we'll be shunned by preschool teachers and neighbors. ETA  - you know, because he should be listening to Barney and Milkshake instead of KISS and Black Eyed Peas.

  • Dress him up like Richard Simmons instead.  That would be hysterical.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I saw that costume in a catalog, I thought it was hilarious/adorable!  So yes, I'd do it.
  • Yes, because XH is a huge fan.

  • I would...but I'm a KISS fan. I'd be disappointed that he wouldn't be in a "cute" outfit though. Why did you give him a choice to begin with? I'm still picking out DD's this year and she's 3 years old. She'll wear what I choose, I'm figuring this is the last year I'll be able to do that though. Anyway, I think it would be fantastic if a kid showed up at my house looking like that.

  • I totally would.  But, in the interest of full disclosure, I will never be known for being prim and proper.

  • I guess I am the only one who would say no, here.

There's plenty of time for rock icon costumes when they are older.

  • Definitely, but we're big rock fans. DS was Angus Young last year (hands down the best costume ever), and he wants to be Slash this year. Those are a little "tamer" than Gene Simmons, but still--it's cute. Ethan is hardcore rock fan, though.
  • I always picked out my kids costumes until they turned 3 and then when they were 3 I let them pick their own.  I have to be honest though ... if my son wanted to be Kiss I am not sure I would do it.  I don't think it's horrible (it might be funny) but I am not sure.

I really wanted my son to be Sponge Bob this year because he loves that show.  But he wants to be Buzz Lightyear so that is what he is going as (he is 5).

  • I would not even think twice about letting my child wear that costume. I am big believer in letting children make their own choices, within reason, of course. I picked my kids 1st Halloween costumes, but after that, if they want to be something, they can. I really don't understand a parents need to have so much control that they can't let their child be an individual and pick their own costume.

  • Sure.  And I'd think it was hilarious if a child showed up at my house in the costume.  :)
