Birth Date Drama

I am hiring a pro for K's first birthday party.  Ridic to some but a necessity for me, don't judge.  So I call my dad today to tell him to make plans to come to her party.  He says, "Well it's my birthday too.  So we'll have to figure something out."

WTF.

I don't even know what he means.  Does he not want to come because it is his birthday too?  Does he expect me to have his name on the cake too?  I won't.

I hate that she was born 3.14. Plus or minus one more flipping day and this wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for listening to me vent about this...over and over.  I know I will get over it someday but I don't think it will be for a while.  So I apologize in advance for any future vents.

Re: Birth Date Drama

  • Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat????  That is RIDICULOUS.  What adult is that concerned with their birthday?  Sorry, but that seems really immature & selfish, especially when it's his granddaughter!

This. Exactly. I was thinking as I read your post, um....grandchild trumps grandpa's birthday. Everytime. But especially her first.

  • WHAT?!?!?!  That is so horribly obnoxious!  I had to share a cake with my cousin when I was little and I hated it.  K doesn't haven't to share with ANYONE.  What Grandparent says something like that?

  • WTH? Tell him to figure out how to get over it!
  • WTF. Tell him to grow a sac and get over it.

Soph's birthday party is on the same day as my mom's birthday and I offered to get her a special cake too and she absolutely refused and said no way is she taking any of the attention away from Soph.

    Grandpa is being ridiculous.

ETA: I deserve some kind of reward for the longest run on sentence ever.

And that is a normal grandparent!

The only reason I even said anything about it was to make sure he was planning on coming down for the party before I spend a bunch of money for photos I want to make sure most everyone is going to be there.  I was trying to give him enough notice, since he and his GF support her son and grandson and neither of them work.  Ugh.

Timm said to not tell him about anything else, just send him an invite like planned for the local people.  So that's what I am planning on doing.

And it is good to know that I am not crazy for being annoyed.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this Ashley.

  • Since Jeff's mom's birthday is on the same day as Gavin's J made me include her birthday as part of Gavin's.  I didn't do much, but it was her 60th so I got a 60th birthday balloon to include with all the rest and also made cupcake toppers with "60" on them and her name.  HOWEVER, I don't think she even noticed and she didn't say anything about it being her birthday too, this was all Jeff wanting me to do that.  Her focus was entirely on Gavin. I got her a birthday girl pin and hat, but she didn't wear either.

I agree with all PP, I can't believe your dad would act like that.  It's Miss K's big day!

This exactly. At that point I would say its his loss if he doesn't want to come. Alexa's party was on my grandmas birthday (the day before A's b-day) and she made no mention of her birthday during her party, In fact she was beyond thrilled that later that night we lit a candle on a cupcake and sang happy birthday to her too. Your dad is being very immature.

  • It is Kiki's 1st birthday.  He should be jumping up and down to come.
  • 1. I am so sorry Grandpa is being a butthead. I mean seriously granddaughter's first birthday... not an optional event.

    2. Did I read right that her birthday is 3.14? As an uber nerd, I just have to say how awesome it is that her birthday is "Pi Day."

I'm ready to climb the walls, too, buddy.
