waterproof crib pad AND matress pad?

Do you need both?  Or maybe they are the same thing??  I'm a little confused. haha

    I think they are the same thing. We're getting an ultimate crib sheet, which is a sheet and waterproof mattress pad in one.

    As far as I have experienced, they are the same thing.

    I have both a mattress pad which is waterproof...under a crib sheet...and then the ultimate crib sheet to go over.  I am going to be trying out both once LO arrives.  We received 2 ultimate crib sheets as gifts.

    My daughter just turned 2 and we used a waterproof fitted mattress pad and a crib pad until about 4 months ago.

    It's just so convenient to be able to just replace the crib pad instead of having to change the sheets and the fitted mattress pad in the middle of the night.

    And less laundry!

    Although it seems natural to me to want to have a mattress pad, as we are so often told - less is more in a crib. I am planning to use just a sheet over the mattress and then the ultimate crib sheet on top of that. I think a waterproof mattress pad under all that would be overkill.
