Hi Ladies,
I am a regular on the bump application on my iphone but have never posted to the website-
My shower is the 12th of Septmeber and it is only scheduled for two hours. There are a lot of people traveling over an hour to come. The hostess estimates between 75-100 people showing up. I don't want the food bill to be too expensive so I was thinking of having a dessert only buffet (cake, brownies, cookies, pies, fruit, exc) do you think this is tacky? Do you think that because they are traveling a ways we should provide food and if so can you suggest inexpensive items?
Thanks for your help in advance, it really means a lot!
Re: Food Question for Shower
As long as the guests know it's only two hours long you should be ok because then they won't be expecting a meal but if they are unaware of this then you might have some pretty hungry people elaving your shower in a hurry to the closest restaurant!
If you want to add some more finger food to the mix without going too far off from the dessert trail you could do some veggie and cheese and cracker platters.
I think it really depends on what time frame the 2 hours are. If you're talking 12-2, yes, I'd personally expect food. But if it's 2-4, I wouldn't. Plus, some others may disagree, but I think it would be acceptable to put on the invitation at the bottom, "cake & punch will be served" or "dessert will be served".
We had a retirement open house for my dad a few weeks ago and I priced around several caterers and grocery delis and actually ended up getting my party trays from Walmart. They were great. I didn't have to worry about finding trays and reloading them etc. We just did some cheese, meat cubes, crackers, veggies and fruit along with the cake and other desserts. It worked out quite well without spending a fortune.
Agree w/ PP's. If it's at noon, you need to have "real" food. But if it's an afternoon shower, I think desserts are fine. Although I would prefer a combination of light snacks and desserts :-)
Regardless, you should give guests a heads up on the invitations so they know what to expect. I would be p*ssed to drive an hour, expect lunch and only see a plate of cookies ;-)
It really does depend on what time the shower is.
Personally I think you should provide some other foods for people to munch on, but that's just me.
Is there any chance of breaking it up into two showers?
