Finger Foods to start with...

What are some good finger foods to start with?  My LO isn't into his purees recently but I always feel so nervous when I think about giving him other foods.  He does have puffs and yogurt melts, but other than that only fruits in the mesh feeder.  Where would be a good place to start?  Thanks so much.

Re: Finger Foods to start with...

  • i say avocado and banana. they are mushy and can be sliced in big enough pieces to hold.
  • Loading the player...
  • Broccoli, steamed well, is super easy to hold. Leave a little of the stalk on it. Meats are good, big pieces that are more for exploring, watermelon with the rind on for easy holding... When we started we just went straight for it and gave tons of stuff and just worked at staying calm while she learned. That route is a little scary 'till you really 'get' that they use gagging as a way to learn how much to take and how to move food around in their mouth.

  • We just went big and jumped right into everything. Last week DS stopped taking purees, and so we've been giving him whatever we eat. Pizza (cut up) was a huge success. He likes to give the dogs his peas though.
