Self-conscious about my "bump"

Well, I do think that I'm finally starting to "pop" out...literally just in the last couple days. That being said, I feel like my bump is a little high, to where it makes me doubt if that's really my "bump". Does that make sense? I just feel really self-conscious about it right now. I feel more self-conscious about where it is than if people think I'm just fat. I plan to post a picture later but I'm at work right now so I can't. Maybe you can be the judge?

Re: Self-conscious about my "bump"

  • I feel ya. I only have a little bump too and I'm worried that people think just think I had a little too much beer last night ;-) DH said "Who cares what other people think! You're pregnant!" Men will never understand!!

  • I completely agree. I wore a maternity dress too early and people thought I was showing when I just looked fat and now I have a little bump and feel fat still. DH is always like oh how cute, and I tell him to shut up because he doesn't have to look fat. I may be extra irritable though. Embarrassed
  • Let me tell you my personal experience.  I'm a little overweight as it is so keep that in mind.  I'm finding that as my uterus is growing it is pushing other inside parts up which in turn is making me look larger above my belly button right now, as well as below. I'm also self-conscious about it because right now it's all just looking gross but I'm somehow fitting into my clothes much better today than I was yesterday.

I was thinking this myself. I can definitely tell that things are being pushed up, b/c my stomach isn't mushy necessarily, but I know it's not my uterus. I think my uterus is just pushing other things at the moment. I like this explanation better than anything else : )

  • I noticed that alot of 1st pregnancies are carried high in my opinion. like a beach ball stuffed right under your boobs lol. but also right now all of our organs are being pushed up underneath our ribs since baby has filled up our pelvis.

this is my least favorite (apperance) stage of pregnancy bc I know Im growing and why, but everyone else prob just thinks im thick waisted, and I am very selfconcious too.

I saw your bump on the hump day/bump day post and I think it's BEAUTIFUL, just so you know. : ) I am actually jealous b/c I wish mine looked like that.

  • I have been super self conscious too. I feel just "chunky" right now. I am starting to get a small bump, but it doesn't look like baby yet. If you feel it my tummy is hard, but I just wanted that cute little bump.

  • I'm sure you're gorgeous! It gets difficult until you get that rock solid bump thats all baby.

But I'm sure you look great! Mine looks fat sometimes and baby sometimes.

I don't take bump pics like I would like to because I often feel its just fat. When I lay down I feel my uterus and its hard, but I stand up and feel more gushy fluff and I just feel fat. haha

I think we are all in the same spot at this point.

This is what I'm experiencing, too!  I don't really feel self conscious about it, but it isn't quite the cute lil bump that some of these ladies have.  I also believe I've got the beginnings of a linea negra. Yippee!! LOL I just take it all in stride and laugh...what else can ya do?!?!

  • I totally understand how you feel because I feel that way now and I did at this stage when I was pregnant with DS.  My advice is to wear fitted shirts, as counter-intuitive as that sounds.  I feel fatter when I wear a loose shirt but I feel like it's more obvious that it's a baby bump when I wear a fitted shirt.

I had linea negra when I was pregnant with DD its not that bad. alot of people get it, and hey look on the bright side bikini seasons almost over!

  • I hear you! I feel like I'm in the stage where people are afraid to ask because I could be just fat. I've been trying to spread the word quickly around work, so I don't feel as self conscious there. I do feel more comfortable wearing fitted tops because when I wear loose tops, I feel like people are looking at me and thinking that I'm trying to hide being fat.... if that makes any sense?

  • I hear you.  I've been borderline looking chunky/pregnant for a couple weeks now, and now I'm more obviously pregnant when I wear certain things.  I would be fine with looking pregnant except for one thing... I'm starting a new job at 17 weeks pregnant, and they don't know. :/  See, I was offered this job a year ago (that's how it works in big law firms... you work there a summer during law school, and if it goes well, you get an offer to come back as an associate after you graduate).  I'm so worried about showing up four months pregnant... what the perception of that is going to be (there were good reasons... one is that we wanted to have a baby during law school, but it took us a long time to conceive and we didn't feel like we were fertile enough to have the luxury of taking a break when timing got inconvenient for work, and the other is that we were (unsuccessfully) trying to beat my father-in-law's cancer prognosis so he could meet the baby).

So, anyway, I'm starting the job on 9/13, and I'm just going to do my best to disguise the fact I'm pregnant for a few days and hope that's long enough for me to meet with a couple people at the firm about it to tell them the news.

  • I am having the same problem. Everybody keeps saying "Oh, you have a little baby bump going on!!" and I'm like "Nope. Its fat. Fat, and my organs. And I'm also constipated, so I think there's a little of that too. But thanks." Its like the "bump" part is really high, but my stomach is definitely getting firmer. It feels weird to pres on it though. I do agree with what some pp's said about wearing more form fitting clothes though. I guess if people want to think its a bump, let them. Its better than trying to cover it up and them thinking you've just been eating too many donut holes. :p
  • I only feel a little self conscious because I can see people looking at my belly.  Plus I look like I'm 18 (I'm 28), so I expect to be judged a lot for being 'too young'.  I agree about the tight shirts.  I feel better in those too.  I also have the belly starting to stick out above the belly button, with the bigger bump underneath.  I'm pretty sure the low stuff is all uterus/baby, with organs being shoved upwards.

I'm sure your bump is adorable! People carry at different heights, but higher or lower doesn't make it any less cute!!

  • I totally know what you mean.  Right now my stomach looks a little pudgy, but at my NT scan last week and my doctor appt yesterday they found the baby RIGHT down there, like barely above my pubic bone.  So if that's where the baby is, why am I all flabby up around my belly button??????

This is me exactly.  My lower abdomen is still squishy, but the upper part is hard as a rock and sticks way out!
