Anyone have a Nap Nanny?

Trying to decide if this would be worth the $.  My friend has one and it is super cute and her NB seems to like it, but I just don't know if it's really worth it or not.  I can't imagine that a baby past the NB stage would really want to use it, but maybe.  I thought it may work between Jim and me in bed if we get to the point of having to put her in there with us.  May also be nice to just have something lightweight to move throughout the house as needed.  Anyone have experience with it?

  • I don't have one, but I know they've been recalled recently.

  • I was just reading about that.  A 5 month old died b/c she was placed in it and then in the crib.  She fell over the edge and got stuck between it and the bumper pads.  Awful and scary!  It has actually been redesigned since that incident and I would never use it in the crib anyway.  As with all baby products, I think it's more about the parents watching over the baby diligently to make sure things like that don't happen.
  • We really contemplated on buying one too.  I've seen some posts on other boards where women just love them.  Buy Buy Baby had a video on at the store and I believe that it can be used as a seat (somehow) when the baby outgrows sleeping in it.  That might be one way to get some more use out of it and might make it worth the money.

I'm glad to hear that they've redesigned them. So sad about the poor baby that died, though. From what I understand the directions clearly state not to use it in the crib - only on the floor with nothing else around it. I wonder if they had that rule before the baby died.

I don't think so.  I think the main difference other than the new clips they added was the instruction to not use it in a crib.  Sad that it took a death happening before that was stated on there!

Yeah, I wondered about this.  I read that somewhere, but I don't see how it works like that.   If that is the case, I think it would be worth the money.  If not, I don't think I'll get one b/c it just won't be used long enough.  I'll have to look into that...

  • I don't - I see they have come down a lot in their prices but that is a lot of money for a glorified pillow.

I think a bouncy seat or something like this https://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/191-0021951-4484703?asin=B001HTJS60&AFID=Froogle_df&LNM=|B001HTJS60&CPNG=baby&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B001HTJS60&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Would put the baby in the same/similar position (except for co-sleeping).  we have a rocker and I LOVE it.  I didn't get it for Avery until she was 3 months old but I wish I had it earlier.

I don't know.  Before I went and bought one, I'd sort of feel out what kind of baby Lanie is - she may not need to co-sleep, or be really independent.  They look super comfy but I'm not sure I could justify the cost, unless I had tried EVERYTHING and it was a final/last resort.

  • We used one for the first four months that Sarah was home.  And we DID use it in her crib for sleeping.  But, we were battling severe reflux and she was on an apnea monitor at night so I had no reservations about it.  We bought it gently used (from another preemie mom) and sold it on Craigslist four months later for exactly what we paid for it.

Would I buy one because they're cute?  No way.  I'm too cheap.  But it was worth every penny we paid (and more).

ETA:  we knew it was time to stop using it when Sarah kept rolling over in it.  Not very comfortable.  Or safe.
