I've been hiding in the background

Morning sickness has really been kicking my ass. I just feel like hiding away from the world because I have had so many people at work tell me I look like hell. I'm fighting the good fight but some days I get depressed. Anyone else get depressed while they were pregnant?

  • sorry you are feeling yucky.  I always found talking with people helped me to fell better.  You should be feeling better in a few more weeks!  For me, I didn't feel depressed, but thankful for feeling so sick.  I looked at it as God's way of telling me that the baby is ok!  Big Smile

  • Once I hit 12 weeks all my icky symptoms disappeared, which is the last thing you want to hear, but I want to tell you I can sympathize.

It's really hard because not only do you feel like crap, but when people start telling you look like hell too, it just adds to it.  I'm going through the stage where nothing fits me in regular clothes and nothing fits me in maternity clothes.  Plus my face has been explosive since I got pregnant - and that hasn't gone away.

Everyone thinks we should just be happy all time because we are pregnant - and as awesome as it is that we'll have little ones in 6 months or so, it really sucks until then.  (At least for me it has so far)

I feel your pain and I have just tried to make extra effort to put makeup on in the morning or do my hair differently so I at least feel like I'm putting effort into myself.

I hope it gets better for you!

  • Having extreme morning sickness sucks monkey balls. Watch your fluids carefully - I ended up with a trip to the ER with 3 bags of Saline and 3 bags of Sucrose water to get my fluids under control.

So, when are you are so physically ill, plus exhausted from all the first tri starting a new life exhaustion, it is pretty easy to slip inside yourself adn become depressed. Oh - and don't forget all your super crazy hormones right now.

For most of us, it does get better (and brighter) after the first tri, but always be upfront and honest with what you are going through with your ob/midwife. They are there to help.

  • Ugh, that sucks that your MS is so bad.  I remember mine subsided about 12 or 13 weeks.  But, I was seriously some BSC during my first tri.  My co-workers thought I'd been pushed over the edge finally.  That went away too...eventually.  :)  The 2nd tri was SO much better for me, I hope it is for you too!

  • Thanks gals! I just entered/am entering 2nd tri and hoping that this goes away soon and I am not one of the "lucky" ones who has this the whole pregnancy. I have managed to stay hydrated but they did say I may need to come in for an IV if the throwing up doesn't calm down. Today has been a good day though and I've only had a few gagging episodes so I have hope. It helps to know that other people got through this. None of my friends have or are having kids so the bump is my only connection to other women who are pregnant or have experienced this.

  • I definitely had to fight that battle. I didn't realize it at the time, but once It subsided enough to actually function, I had people tell me they were actually worried about me - then I realized I had been a bit depressed. I promise that it gets easier! GL!

  • No advice, but I'm sorry you feel so terrible. Hopefully it will end soon!  Make sure you keep in contact with your doctor in case there is anything more they can do for you.

  • I feel your pain!  I am still having icky days!  I have found that its super important to stick to an eating schedule!  I am not one of those people who enjoy being pg, in fact I'm not really a fan at all but in the end its worth it (I tell myself this all the time)  I like being in control of my body and being pg I am not.  Hang in there, your not alone!
