Would you call the dr? (tmi warning)

I had a bowel movement this morning (haven't had one since Monday)  The bm hurt a little and wasn't tiny.  After I peed, I made sure just to wipe the front and checked it and there was no blood.  Then I did a full wipe front to back and there was a lot of pink on the tp.  Since I had just checked the front I can only guess that it was probably from the back.  I'm not really worried- I just had a great u/s yesterday, but it's a little disconcerting to see any pink.  I wiped again (just the back) and there was some more pink, but then no more after that.  I've peed since and not any pink at all.

Would you call the dr. just to let them know?

Re: Would you call the dr? (tmi warning)

  • I have that problem too.  My bum is extra sensitive and every time I wipe back there I get some pink.  It could be the start of a hemorrhoid.  If it's only in the back I think your safe, but if it would make you feel better to call then you should do that.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has had this!

  • Since you haven't had a bm since Monday, I wouldn't be too concerned.  That happened w. me occasionally with DS and it definitely was vaginal bleeding from an irritated cervix and I kind of came to expect it.  Was your u/s vaginal or external yesterday?  If it's really worrying you it doesn't hurt to call and they'll probably give you the run down of when to call in the future for these kind of things.

All of this!  I personally wouldn't call for something like that, but if it'll make you feel better, go ahead and call.  They will reassure you.

I'm not really concerned, I'm just trying to figure out if this is info the dr. should know.  Probably not, right?  My dr. already thinks I'm a little on the paranoid side (maybe rightly so).  My u/s was internal but I'm pretty sure the pink was from the back. I usually don't spot after u/s and exams.

  • I am sure you are fine - the pink is just from your butt accomodating your massive poo. :)

I don't think it's necessary information for them to know unless this begins to happen every time you go to the bathroom (in which case, you might have a hemi or fissure or something that isn't healing...and your doc might give you suggestions to help that or want to exam you or have your primary doc check you out).

  • I agree with Cherryblssm.  If it isn't regular I wouldn't worry about it or call my doctor.  Good luck though, I can't imagine that's too comfortable!

It's happened a handful of times but definitely not every time.  Maybe like 3 times total?  It was a little more than the past but it definitely wasn't the most painful poo I've had.

I've been slacking on the fruits and veggies the past few days.  I can't do that anymore.

Gotcha.  You could call and ask about taking a stool softener to help with that, but I don't think this is information that is necessary for your file or care or anything.  Like PP said, it sounds uncomfortable!

(This happens to me every so often and I haven't told me doc about it.  I need to eat more fruits and veggies, too.  If things got really painful, I would probably bring it up then.  I think butt issues are the norm during pregnancy!)  :)

  • Fiber and water are your friends!  If you can't do fruits and veg then stick to high fiber cereal or oatmeal (my saving grace).  And keep the water intake up.

As other people have said it's probably just a hemrroid or a wee little cut from your massive poo.  Keep it in mind for your next appointment but no reason to contact the doctor unless there's heavier blood  and more pain.

  • Thanks! I'm going to try make better food choices and see if that makes a difference.  Maybe I'll mention it at my next appt if it happens again.

  • Along with making better food choices you may want to pick up some of the cottonelle wet wipes (can't remember exactly what I want to call them.) They are alot gentler and help soothe the area.

  • I wouldn't call only because it seems to happen to me often too. I tear a little after bms but it heals right away no problem. It's common and it doesn't sound like it's coming from the front! :)

  • I had a problem with really hard, painful BM's a few months ago. It would hurt like the dickens, and I would have a little bit of pink when I wiped. I took some stool softeners (before I was pg) and the problem went away. It was the start of hemorrhoids I think.

  • I've had the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's because of constipation/hard bowl movements. I freaked out at first but then when I realized it was coming from my butt, it made sense. I'm not worried anymore. Eating fiber helps. :)
