I apologize if this gets asked a lot, but I scrolled back a bunch of pages and didn't see any similar posts about this.
At our 1 year checkup the pedi said no nuts/tree nuts or shellfish until age 2. I don't know why I didn't think to ask her about the newer studies linking late exposure to actually increasing the chance of allergies. There was just so much going on I completely blanked.
What did your pedi say about introducing these foods? What is your opinion on waiting until 2? Do you feel it will increase my DS' likelihood of becoming allergic?
TIA for any replies.
Re: Pedi said no nuts/shellfish until 2
My pedi never gives advice on food. We started pb before a year and DS loves lobster. IDK when we started but it was under 18 mos. We have no allergies in the family either.
All our pedi said relating to foods at his 1 year visit was this...
"He can eat anything you would eat from now on". That to me means he can have anything and everything. I gave DS a small bite of shrimp last night and he just chewed it up and spit it out. I think as long as you give small tastes at first to see if there's a reaction it would be ok.
An excerpt from our 9 month check-up:
Me: We're pretty liberal about letting him try foods and so far we have seen no signs of allergies.
Doc: Oh, well then I wouldn't worry too much.
Me: Yeah, his favorite food is clam chowder.
Doc: (choking back shock) Wow, you weren't kidding. (Pause) And he's had it more than once?
Me: About 5 times so far, the first time about a month ago. (We eat a lot of leftovers.)
Doc: Well, in that case I'd say you're pretty much ok. You can even introduce PB a little early if you want, and that should help his caloric intake.
