FCI - Dr. Kaplan

Hi Ladies -

I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with Dr. Kaplan at FCI. I'm currently being treated by Dr. Sipe there but not happy with his progress. I've heard Dr. Kaplan is a bit more aggressive in his treatment plans. Have any of you seen him?

Thanks!

Re: FCI - Dr. Kaplan

  • Personally, we saw Dr. Rapisarda for our past 2 successes and had a great experience each time.  Friends have used Dr. Kaplan with great success as well though.  GL!!

  • I would really suggest looking at another fertility clinic.  I was unhappy with some issues I had at FCI and I looked into them and they are not the best company. I mean I did HOURS and HOURS of research.  They tend to use the same procedure on everyone.  For some this works great but for others they need a treatment based on them.  Also their statistics are quite skewed.  I switched to Advanced Fertility Centers of Chicago (in the burbs) and they used a different approach and I was pregnant the first month I was with them.

    Good Luck!!!

  • I had luck with Dr. Kaplan.  Love him.

I will admit the place is a bit of a factory but EVERYONE I worked with was fantastic and so kind.

He is really agressive but that is what I really wanted.  Not pushy though.  He would say things like "if you were my wife or daugter I would..." but gave us all the facts to make our own decision.

I know I am probably a little biased because we were successful with him but from my understanding he is the best in the midwest.  The other thing is that he will work with anyone.  A lot of places (like Advanced Fertility) won't take you unless you have a good chance of getting pregnant.  He is just the opposite - he wants the tough cases.  My friend also went to him and he told her flat out that he couldn't help her but if anyone could CCRM could.  I really respect a doctor that will say something like that.

Good luck - it is really overwhelming!

  • I love Dr. Kaplan! His nurses are amazing. I honestly can not say enough good things about him and the River North office. He puts all the odds out there and let's you decide what you want to do. I always heard back from the same nurses and I really got the impression that there was a team working on getting me pregnant..and actually cared about DH and me, too. I had success on our "Hail Mary" IUI before moving on to IVF.

Like a PP said, the monitoring appointments can definitely seem very "factory" like...however, it worked great for me because I was in and out and on time to work.

  • Thank you! Which doctor did you see at Advanced Fertility Centers of Chicago? We are also considering setting up a consultation there.

  • I started with dr S. After 2 iui's he told me to go home and save for donor eggs. I wish I started with Kaplan, I love the man. Very aggressive, fantastic personality, and brilliant.

  • Thanks! I have scheduled two consults this month: one with Sipe and one with Kaplan to discuss IVF. I have heard that Kaplan is more aggressive and after 4 failed IUIs I'm hoping he'll be our guy to get the job done.
  • I saw Dr. Sherbahn and loved him. Having been to FCI I was so amazed at how much different they were. I want to go back and visit just to say hi.  I did have a scare one day and had to see Dr. Deutch(he actually helped GE develop their 3D ultrasound) - I was nervous because I thought maybe with his background he might not have the bedside manner - but I was wrong.  As soon as he could tell the baby was OK he let me know.  He said I don't want you to wait but the baby is good and then he went on to find out why I was in so much pain - luckily had nothing to do with baby.  Dr. Sherbahn stayed late to answer all of my questions one day and he told me all of the risks and explained $.  He said you can choose which path you would like to go or I can guide the path.  I liked this because I never had the opportunity to have input at FCI.
