Breastfeeding/Pumping schedule ?

I am having a hard time finding the time to pump to build up a stash of bm and am curious how you all do it. I feel like i am feeding C so often that i don't want to pump in between and not have enough milk the next time he wants to nurse.

So how do you do it? How often is your LO eating?

Re: Breastfeeding/Pumping schedule ?

  • When I was on maternity leave I just pumped once a day after Alexa at in the morning. That gave me roughly 3-4 ounces a day to get my freezer stash going.

  • I only pump once a day too. When I wake up in the morning I pump and usually get about 10 oz, I feed G 5oz from a bottle and store the other 5oz in the freezer.

In the beginning I would feed her in the am from the breast and then pump out whatever was left and saved that.....But now I just give her a bottle every morning of BM...that is usually the only time she gets a bottle....

By doing this I have about 50 bags in the freezer of  roughly 3-5 oz per bag...

  • I like that idea, just pumping once in the morning. For some reason I kept thinking I needed to be pumping throughout the day and just didn't see that happening.

I never pumped during the day, because as the day goes on you have less and less milk, so I knew I would not have enough for her....but in the morning is when you have the most milk you will all day....in the beginning I would get maybe an ounce or 2 total and I would just save that, and eventually my morning supply got more and more, to the point I am at now...

I would feed C every morning and then pump for maybe 5-10 mins and whatever you get you could either freeze right away or leave in a bottle in the fridge and combine it with the next days pumped milk to make larger frozen bags. That is what all my friends have done....It has worked so far for me...

  • That makes sense. thanks! I have pumped off and on when he takes a real long nap or I just have a chance to do it so I have about 6 bags of 2-4 oz in the freezer, but know that I will need a lot more. Luckily I am working from home for the next couple months atleast, so I have time to build up a supply... but figured I better get started on some kind of schedule to actually pump more often.
