Baby movement - what does it feel like?

Since this is my first pg I don't really know what my baby's movement should/will feel like.  Since last weekend I've felt some pressure pretty low (like right above my pubic bone) - it comes & goes.  It's not really painful, but just a strange kind of pressure.  I'm wondering if this is the baby moving?

How would you ladies describe the first movements you felt of your baby?  everyone says 'butterflies' but this doesn't feel like that...

Re: Baby movement - what does it feel like?

  • My first pregnancy too, but around 17 weeks I started feeling a sensation like little bubbles popping about 2 inches below my belly button, now I occasionally feel little light taps or pokes. I would describe either as pressure, but I hope this helps!

  • I started feeling movement of the bubbles and taps variety at about 16 weeks and have felt that constantly since then, but I also occasionally have pressure like you've described, which to me feels like baby is rolling over or sticking his/her butt up. It just feels tight and possibly like he/she's got their head down already into my pelvis. It's not painful, but it's not really comfortable, either.
  • I never felt the "butterflies" or "tickles" that some girls mention.  At the beginning of 19 weeks, I started feeling something that I would describe as "gas bubbles" (but without the gas).  Since then, it has gotten more distinct, and my LO is particularly active between 8:00 and 9:30 pm every night, and I have a lot of those light kick/gas bubble feelings around then, so I am certain that what I felt at 19 weeks was him.

  • My first movement felt like twitches (at 18 weeks).  To this day, the kicks still feel like twitches.  I also feel the baby moving around in my belly (rolling sensation) and just general movement.
  • If you ever get a twitch in your eye or right above your eye, like in your eyebrow area....I personally think it feels like that (just in your belly, obviously). At first what I thought "gas bubble" feelings were LO, and maybe it was when LO was smaller...but as he has been getting bigger I describe feeling  his moving around as eye twitches in my belly, LOL.
  • Agree with Spugh1453.

I am 15 weeks and just started feeling little twitches like you would get in your eye. At first I thought maybe it was a nerve but after I felt it a few more times, Im pretty sure this is the baby!

I was waiting for the bee or butterfly feeling but I havent felt that yet.

This is exactly how I would describe it.  Like an involuntary muscle twitch.  I never felt the fluttering that many women describe.

  • With Katie it first felt like popcorn popping.  As she got bigger it turned into jabs and rolls.
  • other pp have mentioned it already but my flutters felt like gas bubbles popping or popcorn popping.  i felt them at 17/18 wks.  i never felt any pressure though.
  • Mine started out feeling like gas bubbles that never turned into gas....and now I'm having kicks. It kind of feels like a pulse in my stomach except it's just one thump...here and there!!!! SOOOO excited!
  • This is my 1st pregnancy too, the past week I started feeling this strange feeling like a little fish is swimming inside of me. lol I usually notice it when I'm laying down or sitting with my knees to my chest. It feels really cool. Some days I notice it alot more than others:)
  • Thanks for all the input.  I guess I still can't say I'm 100% sure it's the baby I'm feeling..  time will tell!

  • U will know when it happens! It's an awesome feeling. I would explain it as some did before. It feels just like a muscle twitching. And it just keeps getting stronger the farther along you get. I felt mine moving pretty early and DH was able to feel the movement at 20 weeks.
