Frequency of OB/GYN apts?

This might be a very stupid question.  But before I had my LO I would go annually to my ob/gyn.  Well I received a note in the mail that it is time for my checkup.  I just had one in January so I thought that was weird.  Are checkups now every 6 months (and they sent it late) or did they just mess up?  I would call them and ask, but I'm in the process of finding a new doctor and I don't want them to hound me about making an apt when I'm not planning on going back.  Thanks

  • Sounds like they messed up.  Unless you had something abnormal at your last appointment.

  • I had to go for the normal 6 week pp appt. then they scheduled my yearly check up 6 months later, which was a couple weeks ago.  I don't have to go back for another year now.  Did they do a pap smear at your appt in January?  If not, that could be why you are getting the notice.

  • I used to always go once a year in November.  When i got pregnant, at my 10 week appt (in May) they gave me a pap.  So now my annual appt will be every May.

They did do a Pap at my appointment and nothing was wrong so I'm guessing they messed up!  I'm so glad.  Who wants to go twice a year now!?!?

  • I went to my 6 week checkup and then they scheduled my next "annual" visit for a few months later, based on when my last full annual exam was.

  • I usually get a reminder card 6 months in advance. It takes about 6 months to schedule with my doctor cause she's AWESOME!! That's probably why you got the card so early. Visits are still annual... thank god!

  • Unless there is a problem or your last pap was abnormal I'd say mistake. I had high BP during my pregnancy and it was still a little high at my annual checkup in June so I was told to come in when I am done BFing.
  • I would go annually too. After I went for my 6 week check up in January, they said I was due for my yearly exam in March, I guess so they can do the pap.
