Face wash/moisturizers???

Hi everyone,

I just read in my pregnancy journal NOT to use any face products with Salicylic acid.  I was using Neutrogena acne wash (pink grapefruit) which has 2% Salicylic acid in it...It supposedly causes birth defects if used in large amounts (???) Which of course now I am a little worried...What the F am I supposed to use??  And then you read on about crap in moisturizers etc, you just don't even feel like you can use anything!! LOL Any input is appreciated !

:)

  • I use cetaphil.

  • I have acne too... I just started using Belli face wash. It contains lactic acid, which is safe. I only got it yesterday, so I can't comment on its effectiveness.

  • I use regular, oil free Neutrogena.

Me too, I swear by it. I started using it my first pregnancy at the suggestion of women here, and I will never switch.

Plus, it's cheap at the drug store. Perfection.

  • I went to Whole Foods tonight and got some organic skincare that I'm hoping will help. I typically don't have acne problems, so I don't know quite how to deal with it :(

ps- Some of the natural skincare I looked at still had salicylic acid, so read labels carefully

  • I had to change up all of the face wash and moisturizers bc my skin changed. I went from dry skin to oily skin and now it seems normal skin. I used Origins products which are all natural AND they have an EXCELLENT return policy. I returned unused face stuff to get the new stuff and mentioned it to the sales girl. She told me to bring back ALL of my stuff. They exchanged it all for store credit. I exchanged so much that I felt like I was cheating, but she said that the company wants you to be happy...and I definitely am!!!
  • I had no idea about the Salicylic acid.  Thanks for the info!

  • I was using the Neutrogena acne wash too and just switched to a Loreal face wash for sensitive skin, but it just doesn't seem to make my face feel as clean despite the little nubby scrubber it came with (or maybe that's just the kicked up hormones). I think I may be switching soon, but I miss my Neutrogena....

Also, "white willow bark" is the herbal form of salicylic acid.  Natural doesn't necessarily mean safe and sometimes the ingredient list is harder to decipher.

I used Belli's acne wash when I was pregnant with DD.  It seemed to work really well and I'm using it again this pregnancy, but I also use a light therapy device.

You should start seeing a significant improvement once you hit 2nd tri. Hang in there.

  • I used salicylic acid throughout my pregnancy with DD, the dermatologist I worked for said it was fine..I think you would have to really use a lot of it to cause any issues. I am going to talk to my OB about it today though just to make sure, if I can't use it I will be really sad, my face can get really bad.
