So it's a boy! We are soo excited about our little man. Since DH and I were in high school together, he has had the name Ryder picked out for a boy. I'd love to use Blaze as his middle name--after my grandfather. We both loved the name, and then my dad--who loves to joke around and be sarcastic-- made a comment about it sounding like it should be from Talladega Nights. I laughed, and kind of agree. But what do yall think? I just don't want to give baby a name he'll hate us for! lol.
TIA!

I like the idea of using your grandfather's name as DS's mn (though, are you sure he didn't use the traditional "Blaise" spelling?). Ryder is just nms. I think the spelling Rider would be a little better, but I still don't think it's a winner.
I'm sorry. It's just the two names together sound silly.
It's horrendous, but somehow I don't think he'll hate you for it. I think, being what boys are, he'll think it's pretty cool. And I bet his friends will feel the same.
Don't take the above to mean I recommend or even condone such a name--I really and truly hate it--but I'm a realist and I can see it having a lot of a appeal to young boy. I don't know that he'll feel the same when he wants a professional job--like PPs have said it sounds like a soap opera actor's stage name; I would think seriously before hiring a lawyer named Ryder Blaze and the name would give me pause in a variety of other situations as well.
ETA: I also want to add that sometimes the names we've loved since we were kids need to die quiet deaths for good reasons. When I was a teen I wanted to name my first baby girl "Kassyndrae"--a name I invented (pronounced kuh-SIN-dray). While Ryder is not nearly that awful, I'm sure you can see the point I'm making.
Depends on the last name!! I loke both names, the are both uncommon & cool/hip names, but putting them together depends on the last name. If you are thinking of having more children, maybe wait for another boy to use Blaze. But I do like it. You have to decide what you & your DH like!! Some people on here may think it sounds hideous.. but you may also think that about thier favorite names like Dexter, Henry or Arthur.
Good Luck!!
P.S. I highly doubt he will be using his full name or middle name that much. Honor your grandfather and go for it if that is what you want. Like PP said, it sounds pretty cool to me. He wont be another John or Mike.
This.
I don't mind Ryder by itself. The MN doesn't really bother me either, since it's in memoriam. And along with luckybride, are you sure the spelling wasn't Blaise? I can't see a man who was probably born in the 20s/30s having the name Blaze.
Ryder Blaze is a bit too much for me. Blaze as a mn with something else, OK, but Ryder Blaze looks like it is trying too hard. I actually think just changing the spelling to Blaise would solve the problem for the most part.
I don't like Ryder.
You're right too. The name is very NASCAR.
I think the two names together sounds like a stripper name.
Although I think that if you pulled them apart and chose one or the other, paired with the right name, they would be cute.
My first thought too. I'd go with one noun name and add a more traditional name to balance it out. Save one for a future son. It's too much altogether.
I'm all for family names... but this name just begs for your kid to grow up to be a stoner.
(I kid, I kid... name your kid whatever you want... This is definitely not my style, though.)
Honestly together they sound awful. I could handle each one separately if it had a strong name to go with it.
Ryder James
Andrew Blaze
(examples hehe)
I agree with this. It's like you are shouting, "Look at my kid! He's so awesome! And macho! And hardcore cooooooool!"
