Passing out!

So I got up this morning, ate a bowl of cocoa pebbles, took my vitamins, and started working on the baby bedding (I'm making and sewing it like my curtains.) Then all of a sudden I got lightheaded, back of neck got warm, and I started blacking out. So I sat down in front of the ac vent and relaxed until I felt better. Stood up and worked again for about 3 minutes, and felt it AGAIN! This happened 3 more times before I called the Dr.

Turns out that bowl of cereal I ate an hour ago just isn't enough anymore. Guess the baby is stealing all my food. Little turd. So I ate a small meal of crackers, cheese and chicken salad and started working again. So far so good, but I guess I learned my lesson....

Anyone else have this experience yet?

  • YES!!! It's only happened once but it was when I hadn't eaten but a very small meal. It scared me, but then I realized it probably had to do with me not eating enough. I try really hard not to let myself get too hungry and to try eat a little more.

  • Has happened to me as well! I just knew I was going to pass out while trimming bushes outside, and I immediately sat down. I guess we all need to eat a little more! My Dr. told me the same thing- "Baby's going to take alot from you. Eat a little more than usual."

  • Yes.  This happened when I was going to church.  I was eating a Poptart before I went and it spiked my blood sugar and fell quickly.  I was told to make sure I eat protein.  To make a long story short.....we were having communion and we were dipping the bread in the wine and my piece fell in the wine and I started to pass out and fell forward full hand in goblet....couldn't see or hear.  Then sprinted down the aisle so I didn't pass out completely and have dress over head.  DH was very understanding and concerned....but still loves to tell the story.

This used to happen to me pretty frequently before I got on insulin sensitizers.  Whitney, you may want a cereal a little lower on the glycemic index than cocoa pebbles, esp first thing in the morning.

How scary though!  Glad you're OK.

  • Happened to me too!  I used to eat a bowl of cereal right when I woke up, then real breakfast a little later. Two days in a row, I ate cereal and started to do something in the house....and I started to black out.  I wasn't even doing anything strenuous! So, I had to start eating something heartier right away. Oatmeal works for me, then I eat eggs or french toast or something an hour or two later. My midwife also suggested protein before bed...she said even just a pb&j would probably be a good idea. Our babies are getting bigger and they need more of our food!! :)

  • This happens to me all the time!  So I eat probably every hour, but since I do it that way, I dont eat very much at a time.
  • Yes! This happened to me once around 14 weeks. It was pretty scary. I knew that if I didn't sit down I was going to pass out. My coworkers said I got really pale. I had never felt like that before. I am glad it hasn't happened since.

  • I found that I have to be careful at night.  Back in 1st tri when I was having more food aversions, I went to bed one night without having eaten enough for dinner.  I woke up at 3am sweating and shaky and hypoglycemic and had to get up and eat a snack in the middle of the night.
