  • Aim low and use lots of gel. Be patient. It took a while to find at first.

    Good luck!

  • 10 weeks might be a little early...they couldn't get ours at the midwives till 12-13 weeks.  At home I tried right after that and could get it but you have to tilt the doppler to the side a bit and move it around in the lower pelvic area.  I got mine on my right side a lot.  It is SO reassuring to hear that amazing beat though-I can feel your excitement!!!  And when you feel the movement.  Nothing like it.  Nothing.  Enjoy and congrats.

  • thanks guys! how "low" is "low" as far as trying

Right around the hairline. I found the HB barely above it, and by barely I mean the doppler was micrometers away from the jungle.

Another tip, don't freak out if you don't find it this early. Good luck though!! I was able to find it at 9w6d and haven't had any problems ever since!

Just above the pubic bone / hairline.  Use a bit of pressure and point the wand in and down.  I'd also suggest listening to some audio clips of early fetal heartbeats, so you know what you're listening for.  I first found mine at 8w5d but it was really quiet - turn the volume way up and don't expect the rate monitor to pick it up.

  • OK I'm gonna try ladies - wish me luck! Also I don't have any gel - the model I got (angelsounds) said I didn't need it - can I use lotion or do you think aloe would be better?

  • Aloe would be better. KY is fine too...

Lotion will work in a pinch, but it doesn't conduct as well and her hb sounds muffled to me when I use it, even this far along.

Hmm...I don't think the angelsounds is as sensitive as a medical-grade doppler, so I'd be really surprised if you heard it before week 14 or so.  But it won't hurt to try.  Use aloe.

  • I got a Sonoline B 3mHz from Amazon. I found the h/b just before 10 weeks. I love it.

  • Ok I heard a fast WHOOSHING sound BUT I heard it on BOTH sides low down near the pubic hair line. I have only seen 1 baby on u/s so I'm thinking I'm hearing placenta blood flow and not a heart beat. Damn it. Or could there be a twin in there??? It didn't sound like the galloping sound but like "wHEE-uh, WHEE-uh, WHEE-uh" over and over again fast. HELP!

  • Yep, not the baby.  Those are your carotid arteries, and it's definitely the dominant sound down there.  The baby will likely be more towards the center.

Oh, and I have the same doppler that Sonadora has.

  • ok yes it must be the arteries. i am not hearing a heartbeat at all then, which of course makes me anxious even though i know this is a crappy doppler. ugh! i just ordered the one you all have with 2 day shipping from amazon. please send t&p my baby's fine and that i hear it soon!
