Anyone gone camping with LO?

We've been planning a camping trip for Labor Day weekend, but as it gets closer, we're chickening out.

  • What type of camping are you talking about?  Cabin, RV, Tent?  We rented a cabin for next week and will be camping in that.  But we only got a cabin because we decided to take the dog along with us, therefore can't do a tent.

But, we originally were going to tent camp.  So we did a practice run with DD in my parents  backyard.  she did great.  She slept in one of the peapod travel beds inside our tent.

If you're tenting, maybe you can do a trial run?  Gl it'll be fun, go for it!

Going Saturday with my 5mo and 2yo, but just for a few hours. Long enough for naps to go to hell, I'm sure.

    We'll see!

  • We planned on tent camping, but do have a pop-up available if we want it.  Our tent is really large with 2 rooms and I can stand up in it.  We got the tent as a wedding gift and haven't had a chance to use it yet, so we really want to, but now we've kind of talked ourselves right out of it.  It's been getting down into the 50's at night, so thats our main concern.

  • I went camping with LO when he was 2 months. I bought a portable tent from babies r us and I put him in there on his portable swing and he loved it. I put him in the tent because of the mosquitos and when he fuzzed we would take him out and carry him and cover him in a mosquito tent. We had no problems at all. We are actually going to go again on labor weekend because it was so easy.
  • Yep.  We took each of my kids for their fist camping trips when they were 3 months.  DD (4 years) LOVES camping.  We'll be going camping for DS's next 2 camping trips the next 2 weekends.

    Any specific questions?

What baby gear did you bring?

    What did LO sleep on/in?

Did you just have to carry/hold LO the whole time and if not, what did you do?

I say def. go.  just pack a warm sleeper for her, maybe3 double up and put two on her if you think she'll be cold.  bring a hoodie too.  DD slept in a sleeper and a hoodie when we tented.   1ht

  • We went camping in Yosemite just 3 weeks ago.  DD had a great time, it wasn't as bad as I thought.  Our neighbors however had a 1 year old that screamed all night long...literally they allowed her to cry from 9pm to 4am.  Not to scare you away from camping, I think they were bad parent's from the get go.  Other than that hiccup we had a fun time.  We brought her jumper, PnP, Bumbo, Ergo and duck tub.

  • Yeah I know...It wasn't until a little after 4am they put her in the car and went for a drive.  I started to think that she was in pain some how...earache, teething maybe, because it was a top of the lung, high pitch desperate scream...not a whine like she didn't want to got to bed.  The night before she was fine.  I don't know...it really annoyed a lot of people because someone actually yelled at them from across the campground.  Fun times!

  • We took DS camping when he was 4 months. He slept in his PNP in the tent. Also in the tent was the dog's crate and our queen sized air mattress. We all had a great time. Mosquitos weren't an issue. He loved spending the day laying on a blanket on the ground in the shade of a tree just watching the sky. I used a cover to nurse, unless we were in the tent. He slept as well as he does at home. We did follow the same schedule we do at home. No need to be chicken! Go! Have fun!!

  • We also brought his bouncy seat, which we used a lot, and his playmat which we used not at all. He spent LOTS of time just laying on an unfolded sleeping bag on the ground.

  • We took LO camping when she was just under a month old (at a campgroud, not just in the woods). It went fine. We had a battery operated fan to take with us when we went to the pool or anywhere else and we stayed in a camper, but it was just as easy as taking her anywhere.

I brought a bouncy seat with a toy bar and a Bumbo.

They sleep in an infant sleeping bag (though you can just tie a ribbon or scarf around a big sleeping bag to make it shorter).  Depends on the temperature for what they wear.  At DD's first campout there was still snow on the ground so she wore a sleeper and a fleece suit with hood/mittens, swaddled in a blanket and in the sleeping bag.  DS just wore a footed cotton sleeper, swaddled in a cotton blanket, in teh sleeping bag.

See above, I brought a bouncy, but we mostly hike and stuff so then they were in carriers.

It's much easier when they aren't eating food yet and dropping it everywhere in camp :)

  • We did it when she was 2.5 months old.  We brought and used her peapod, bouncy seat and a soft snowsuit type thing she slept in.  It got down to 60 degrees, maybe cooler since we were by the lake and we were pretty cold.  She slept better than the rest of us.  I put a receiving blanket under her since the peapod is like tent material - sort of cold.  I checked on her all night because I had visions of her stuffing the blanket near her face.  She was fine. Also there was a slight incline and she did slide down to the bottom of it.
  • We brought DD camping at 2 1/2 months and it got down to 50/60 degrees at night.  She slept in her Moses basket with pjs, fleece pj sack and her sleep sack on, along with socks.  She was warm every night and did great sleeping.  Her naps went well and we had a fabulous time camping.  We were also in a tent.
