School-Aged Children

First grader bit my DD.....

I just got a call from the school nurse that my DD (who also is in first grade) got bit by a boy when they kids were all lining up to go to gym or lunch or something.....

Skin wasn't broken, nurse cleaned it and my DD seems to be in fine spirits about everything....

But WTF.....I thought the biting phase ended at the age of....oh....TWO!!!!!!

Nurse assured me the kid is being punished, whatever that means.

Re: First grader bit my DD.....

  • ok, now I feel a bit sorry for the kid.  Tay was truly not hurt...her skin does not have a single mark.  And the boy has a full time para with him.....he spends most of his time in the behavioral classroom.  So something isn't right with him and I imagine it royally sucks for his parents to hear their 6  year old bit a girl more than it sucks for me to hear that my DD was bit.

  • Some kids never grow out of it- my niece who is 9 had to be placed in a special school for behavioral problems b/c she bit her teacher twice last year.  And my other niece, who is 5, also bit another kid last year.

Thank goodness DS was never a biter- I can't imagine. However, when he was in pre-k, he was bitten by the same kid 3 times.  That's the reason I pulled him out of that school!

  • I am glad to hear that she's okay. That does suck for the parents and the child himself. :(
