Glider vs. Rocking Chair

I really like the look of old rocking chairs but I'm thinking it may not be feasible in a carpeted nursery.  Do we think that I should just go with a glider instead?

Again just in the shopping mode and looking for options!

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Re: Glider vs. Rocking Chair

  • We have a recliner that rocks that's kinda unused in our living room so we plan on just moving that up to the nursery.  If I had to decide between a glider or a rocker I'd go with the glider just because they have a smoother range of movement to me.  Go test some out at the store and see how comfy each one is for you, that might help you out.  I know some of the gliders at BRU have special pockets/compartments off the arms to store extras you might need during feeding time, which could come in really handy.

  • We have a rocking recliner in our living room.  We just rocked DD in there. We never bought a rocker or glider specifically for the nursery, and I wont be for this one either.

  • We are actually being given an antique wooden glider (that looks like a rocker). It belongs to my IL's and they aren't using it so I figure it will work just fine since I don't plan to use it a ton.
  • A glider or a recliner will be more comfortable than a rocking chair. You will likely spend a lot of time in it, so in my opinion, comfort is key.

  • We were originally going to buy a glider but since my step-father offered to give us his leather glider we will use that instead. A rocking chair will not be as comfortable even if you have padding on on it.

  • I love the gliders! They are so much smoother in movement.  Also I think they take less work on my part to move!
  • I LOVED out glider with my last two, but my dog chewed up the bottom of it to nearly unusable and I managed to offload it on my friends for $20. They fixed it up and it works just fine.

I think my favorite part was the ottoman. When you put your feet up on that puppy and rocked back and forth, it felt like you were floating.

  • When I had DD my grandmother gave me her rocking chair that she had rocked me in as a baby. I loved the idea of it!  however I will say that now having had it for two years and compared it against my IL's Glider they bought to rock DD at their house...the rocking chair isn't as comfortable and I kind of wish we got a glider.
  • I also have a handed down rocking chair that belonged to my grandparents. Every single one of their kids, and all their grandkids have been rocked in it. I feel guilty for wanting a glider so badly.

Well then, put the rocker in the living room/den and put a glider/ottoman in your nursery. When the parents come to see the chair being used they'll love it, but then you'll still get the comfort you'll need at 3am in the nursery.
