Infertility

Hypnosis and IF

So, every time I see my BFF she loves to give me the "latest and greatest way to get pregnant" - because apparently it's super easy. Tongue Tied I've heard about OPK's, checking my CM and even the Mayan Uterus massage a few months ago. This last weekend it was hypnosis and IF and how that is my ticket. (can you sense the sarcasim in this post??)

Well, being an openminded person, I was wondering if any of you wonderful ladies had done this or had any experience with it. Please share. As we all know, we will do anything we can to get pregnant so I'm willing to look into this!

Re: Hypnosis and IF

  • Wow, that's one I hadn't heard of yet!

  • I've heard about it and read a book on it ("The Mind-Body Fertility Connection" by James Schwartz). They author believes there is a deep subconscious block to IF, and hypnosis is a much faster way to resolve issues vs. cognitive therapy.

Would love to hear other ladies' thoughts on this :)

    I think that is BS.

  • I find it all a little BS too. It sounds like the same as telling someone to relax.

I guess most of my issue is with the fact that I don't really believe in hypnosis. My friend stumbled upon the IF part because she is using it for her labor (yup, pregnant with #2). I can see that even as a "non-believer" I wouldn't mind learning about it for pain management, but for getting pregnant - I just don't see how it's possible to have hypnosis "fix things". Like Esperanza said - how can it change the actual physical things wrong with us?? Even as an unexplained person here - I just don't get how this is different that "just relax".

Along those lines, maybe my subconscience caused me to grow extra electrical pathways in my heart that required heart surgery or told my eggs to stop growing. Confused

  • This is odd. I think hypnosis can work if someone is open to being hypnotized, but I don't think it works like miraculous healing. I think it can help you quit smoking or perhaps unlock memories depending on the person, but I don't think it can cure IF issues.

If Infertility was a mental thing you could argue that anyone who doesn't want to get pregnant (like party girl teens for example) wouldn't because mentally they would block it from happening and that would control their ovulation and we would never need birth control or IF treatments.

  • Sorry - should have clarified -- the 'theory' is more for the 'unexplained' IF category.

From what I got from the book, is that if you are going through multiple treatment cycles, and there is not a medical reason for IF, then they believe hypnosis can potentially lead to resolving an underlying emotional issue. They don't believe this is on the same lines as relaxing -- it is much deeper and that our subconscious is really our driving force. I think it is along the same lines as therapy, just more intense.

It's an interesting theory -- I don't think it is going to 'cure' IF for anyone, but may be a good alternative treatment to incorporate for those who believe.?
