Lovenox Users...

anyone's insurance company recently switch you to the generic?  Mine did this last batch and I'm not very happy about it.  My copay didnt change though.  I've noticed a change in the size of the needle (catches on my skin when I remove the needle) and the medicine seems to sting more...maybe it's because there's more medicine going in at a faster rate.  Anyone else experiencing this?  Or am I the only lucky one to get the switch?

Re: Lovenox Users...

  • They called to ask me if I wanted to switch and since there was no difference in the co-pay I declined. If there is no difference in what you pay, opt to go back to the name brand

  • Yes! I agree!!

Mine perscription just switched me last week... I'm at 27 weeks.. and I agree, the needle is not like the name brand and I'm having a tougher time with it (more bruising, etc.) I thought it was in my "head" that these were tougher injections since I'm further along... but it's good to know that I might be able to request the regular back... I'll need to call my pharm...

  • Mine did.  I switched but am waiting for the shipment.  It was a significant cost savings for us for b/c its not fully covered on my insurance.

It sucks that its different though! :(

  • I got a letter from my insurance saying that a new generic was out and that I would be getting next time I ordered a refill. Well I ordered the refill about a week later through my insurance mail-order pharmacy, but still got Lovenox.

If my next refill turns out as bad as you are describing, I will call to complain right away and ask to be switched back ASAP!! I think we'll need to complain so the generic improves their quality. If they don't know, they can't fix it.

    Good luck.

  • Unfortunately I never got to try the name brand. I've been on the generic the whole time. My insurance company won't let me use Lovenox. I did call to complain this week when two of the generic shots were cracked inside. I think the quality of the generic isn't as good and I hate feeling like a guinea pig on the 2 month old drug!

I read on the Lovenox board that someon called and their doctor said not to inject the needle the whole way....

  • I got offered the generic today and declined it based on what y'all said. They only had 3 shots off the real stuff so they have to order more, but I'll get the real thing.
