What's the deal with it? I have had very low blood pressure my whole pregnancy in the past two weeks it went up, but still within normal range. I also was plus 1 in protein a month ago and plus 3 today with my urine test so the dr. is sending me for testing...I'm freaking out a little bit and wondering what other reasons there can be..and other's experiences with the testing and results. thanks in advance
Re: Preemclapasia testing
I'm the same way...I usually have very low blood pressure, but it shot up this week for my appointment. I went on Monday, and they drew blood for additional testing. I know they check your liver with the blood work and I'm not sure if there's anything else. I'm also doing a 24 hour urine collection (lovely) that I have to drop back by tomorrow for them to check. I've never had protein in my urine but they wanted a larger sample to check. My blood pressure is on the high end of normal, but it's a pretty big jump for me. I was induced for high blood pressure with my son and it looks like I'll be induced within the next week or 2 this time.
My doctor did tell me to call if I have any headaches, blurry vision, or if my blood pressure gets up to 150/100.
Good luck...it's nervewracking which doesn't help the blood pressure!
my read shelf:
My bp was normal/low throughout as well until 34 weeks. Than my bp shot up to like 130/90 and I had +2 protein in my urine. So my ob sent me for some blood work (liver, and kidney functions) and a 24 hour urine for Creatinine clearance (another kidney function test). Since than I have had continually high bp. I spent the day Friday being monitored in L&D and was sent home on bedrest. I followed up today and my initial bp was 145/99 and only +1 urine protein, after resting by bp was back down to 118/78 so It's not pre-E exactly just PIH.
Good luck and try not to stress (which will raise your bp). I have talked to many girls with pre-E on these boards and most have gone to term despite their dx. The only major problem is that you will probably be put on bedrest.
Testing entails a blood draw (few vials) and the 24 hr urine collection (so much harder to do at 30-something weeks than 10! ugh). I had to jump through these hoops again because my bp is crazy high at visits. At home it's been totally normal the whole pregnancy. I keep track of it and bring a spreadsheet of the readings to every visit. If it goes over 140/90 or if I have other pre-e symptoms like headache, seeing "floaters"/blurry, pain in ribs on right side, sudden hand or facial swelling, I'm supposed to call in.
I don't know what would happen at that point since everything is normal so far. Good luck!?
::sneaking over for a sec::
When I had DS I had gained a lot of weight really fast in the end, my bp was up (can't remember how high) and my protein was +1. I never remember actually hearing the words "pre-eclampsia" but I ended up having a c/s that day. Other than that, I don't know what else they look for. I had not been having headaches or blurry vision at all. My hands and feet were swelling a bit though.
