I have a cold which I believe I got from a fellow runner this past weekend. I know for sure it isn't m/s because miraculously, my nausea-related m/s is non-existent. I don't have that extreme tiredness that I normally have. Normally with my pregnancy related tiredness, I can just lay down and take a nice long nap. However, when I lay down..I just feel like crap. I also have a cough and stuffy nose. I took a sick day because I cannot bare to sit in my cube for 8 hours feeling like this.
How do you get over it and what did you take to ease your cold? I had some saltines, fruit and lots of water with lemon.
Re: Anyone ever been sick with cold or flu during pregnancy?
When I was PG with my first, I came down with a terrible cold. I was absolutely miserable, so I am so sorry to hear you are sick. I drank alot of OJ, since the vitamin C is good for colds, as long as you can stomach it. I was also very stuffed up, so I put Vicks vapor rub on my feet and put socks on and then wrapped them in a heat pad and blanket. (Weird, I know, but it did help. My mother believes Vicks can cure just about anything
You can also take some Sudafed.
Make sure to try to keep hydrated. I was about 30 or so weeks along at the time and got very dehydrated from the cold. I was in BIG trouble with my OB
HTH and hope you get well soon. Get plenty of rest, if possible.
I had a bad cold also with my first pregnancy and I just took sudafed (behind the counter?) and ate plenty of chicken soup and or took tylenol for the fever... I waited though until I felt completely like crap to take medicine... they do say though that stuffiness is one of the first tri symptoms...
Are you pretty active still running?
Thanks everyone for the replies. OJ and chicken soup sounds really good right now. I hate to take the sick day because I am trying to save as much as I can to carry over for next year and use it for my maternity leave too.
Yes I am still actively running. I am training for another full marathon this Oct. My coach, who is due this fri, even said that her gyno said that it's ok to keep running. I have been an active marathoner, so my body is already used to it. I don't advise pregnant non runners to just pick up running though.
I just listen to my body and am not going to push myself. I already take frequent walk breaks and am a lot slower than I used to be. I will definitely not be working out this week so that I can get better.
I have the flu right now and it's a disaster. I've been in bed since yesterday morning. Even had a fever, which really made me nervous.
Sounds like you're doing everything right though- rest and stay hydrated.
Just got over a bad head cold, which turned into a sinus infection. Pretty miserable since the high powered meds I usually take were off limits.
Hang in there!
glad to know that I am not alone. Well, not glad that everyone is miserable..but you know what I mean.
I just picked up some takeout at a nearby sushi place. I got a nice big bowl of chicken udon soup and wow..that hit the spot.
