I need to fix my diet now so that I don't gain anymore weight back, can teach my LO good nutrition, and properly support breastfeeding.
I need to let this out: I'm 180 lbs - my highest pregnant was 189 lbs and I immediately had lost 18 lbs after that. So I've gained back a lot. When I got married 2 years ago I was 128 lbs... you read that right, 128 lbs. When I got pregnant I was already at 153 lbs. So since marriage, I've been gaining like crazy.
What are some key things I could add that would help support breastfeeding? I know I need to eat more veggies for sure. I also would like to add almonds and walnuts. I have a habbit of eating lots of whole grains and milk (for example, oatmeal, cheerios or mini wheats, whole wheat bread, etc.) and I usually have no problem getting lots of fruit in. For a some time now, we've been having "junk" at supper and some snacks because none of us want to cook. Hubby is always tired and so am I. I'm aware that something needs to happen here.
I need help
I do feel better, though, now that I'm wearing some extra supportive underwear. haha.
EDIT: Oh my word, I had "breadfeeding" written first. Wow.
ANOTHER EDIT: I'm 5'8" FWIW.

Another suggestion for dinners - use a crockpot. Yeah, it's kitchy, but you can make some seriously good and good for you meals with minimal effort (I always find myself much more motivated to "make dinner" in the morning). This site has some great recipes - https://crockpot365.blogspot.com/
Good luck! And don't be too hard on yourself - try to focus on your health rather than your weight.
I had to start really watching what I was eating b/c I was also gaining some of the weight back. I have about 10 lbs to go for PP weight and I gained 45 lbs (I'm 5'10" so tall too).
I eat a lot during the day, so I don?t get too hungry and snack at night. DH will cook (grill ? chicken or salmon) usually 2x during the week and we?ll go out to eat 1x (Panera or someplace like that where I can get something light like Salad w/chicken and half a sandwich ) and we?ll also eat a frozen meal (We like the Contessa frozen stir fry, probably high in sodium but they are lower in fat). On the weekends I?ll cook or we go out/order in. It?s hard to fit exercise in but I try at least 1-2x week (usually on the weekends), or a quick walk with DD.
I read somewhere that nursing mothers need EIGHT servings of fruits and veggies. I find if I eat a lot (not 8 but close) of F&V I am full longer, my supply is good and my pants are looser. We will eat frozen veggies that come in those steam bags ?not as good as fresh but better than no veggies and they are quick.
I snack on lots of things during the day : Light string cheese; Yogurt; Apples, Bananas, Strawberries; Light cottage cheese; 1 oz Almonds, Kashi granola bars, Raisins, yogurt covered raisins, jello pudding, I try to replace things like chips or crackers with more filling/healthy options. I eat salad w/chicken for lunch and half a sandwich or soup. I was eating pizza/calzones, big sandwiches - chicken salad etc that I had to stop eating!
It?s so hard to eat healthy when taking care of LO but getting the right things in the house is key for me. If I have the junk around I will grab it and eat it when in a hurry and hungry!
Thanks so much for the meal ideas! I need to go shopping now! Wish me luck! lol.

(A little background about me: before I got married, I was hitting the gym 4 times a week minimum - crosstraining cardio with a weight lifting regime (heavy weights) which I had been doing for a couple of years. My build is normally athletic and lean, but muscular. My nutrition was amazing - so I do know how I should be eating but find it so hard now that I'm exhausted all the time. Guaranteed eating better and some exercise will boost my energy. Time to go shopping for groceries! I also struggle with working out because to do so the way I'm used to would require a gym pass - and I'm breastfeeding with supply issues so I don't like to miss any feedings... Wish me luck
HailsLyrics -- Just a thought. Have you had your thyroid tested. You're struggling with low supply like me right??
?I recently found out my thyroid had crashed post delivery. My symptoms were modest and didn't really sound anything out of the ordinary for postpartum. ?I was tired, cold all the time, and had gained weight AFTER delivery. I've started meds and feel some better and have had a slight increase in supply (not enough yet to get off formula however)?

this. it's the only way we have balanced home-cooked meals during the week sometimes. and look for added sugars in your diet. you named a lot of cereal, if you eat sugary cereal or add sugar try cutting that out. and if you don't already, get moving. I find that regardless of how it looks, I feel better about my body when I use it.
