If your child has a schedule (self-made or mom-made) would you please share it re: sleeping and eating? I need to type up something for MIL and for daycare so we're all on the same page. MIL can't handle things like "look for hungry cues/dowsy cues. She would feed DD my whole freezer stash of milk in one morning if I did that because she thinks every grunt or fuss means the child is hungry.
I actually have the schedule I typed up for DD #1 back when she was 6 months, but it is different because she had started cereals by then.
I am especially looking for when you feed - is it always right before a nap or right after?
Right now she naps around 9am, 12:00 and 4 or 5:00, but I nurse on demand, so I feed her whatever she wants right before naps, plus when she wakes up.
Re: 4 month old schedules
I got my schedule from Baby Wise: Eat - Play - Sleep. And it works great.
LO is 3.5 mos and she eats 5 bottles/day every 3 hours (roughly, feedings are a little farther apart if her naps run over)
8am - 6 oz
11am - 5oz
2pm - 5oz
5pm - 5oz
8-9pm - 6oz
we just changed her schedule but this is what it was at 4 months
6am wake up and nurse
7:30-9:00 nap
9:00 5oz bottle
11:00-12:30 nap
12:30 5oz bottle
2:30-3:30 nap
3:30 5oz bottle
6:30 nurse
7:00 bath
7:30 bed
Now can you share your 6mo schedule with cereal for me?
of course they aren't clocks but it doesn't hurt to have a schedule to follow.
I write my schedule down for my mom but tell her to follow it loosely...meaning don't wake her up at 9:00 to feed cause the schedule says so. If she is still tired let her sleep and then the schedule adjusts. But it is definitely helpful for her to have a schedule to follow. After she watches your kiddo for a bit I am sure she will pick up on cues more and feel more comfortable going with the flow....
Here's Shannon's 6 month schedule for MIL. Thanks, Cassi for the enlightening information about babies. I totally thought I gave birth to a clock and was going to hold her to a schedule to the minute.
4:00/5:00 Shannon wakes up hungry. Check diaper and give bottle. Burp her and lay her back down in crib with music. She goes back to sleep on her own without crying.
6:00/8:00 Shannon gets up for the day. If she?s up early and we need to sleep/pump/shower, we put her in
her swing and she usually either enjoys the ride awake or falls asleep.
10:00 Oatmeal - Warm up 4 Tbsp milk in a cup of hot water, mix in 4 1/2 Tbsp oatmeal infant cereal.
10:15 Nap. I clean her up from meal, hold her upright and read her a book, put her in a sleepsack and put her down for a nap. She usually cries for 5 min, if at all. She sleeps anywhere from 45 min to 2 1/2 hours, but usually about an hour.
After a nap, we play.
1:00 Get her back in a sleepsack and ready for bed. Feed her a bottle. She hasn?t been wanting much more than 4 oz at a time. If you use a 6 oz bottle, you can save the leftover at room temp for the next cereal feeding and/or a little snack. If Shannon drinks from a bottle, that milk needs to be used up at the next feeding and should not be combined with fresh milk.
1:15 Nap. Usually 1 1/2 hours.
When she gets up, we play. Depending on what time she ate and how the day is going, things may be running late (like a nap at 2 or 3) and a feeding might get skipped. Otherwise if she needs it, a bottle can be given during this time if she will still be hungry for her rice feeding.
3:00 - 4:00 If her naps were short and/or early, she may take another nap now, usually for about 45 mins.
5:00 - 6:00 Rice Feeding. Warm up 4 Tbsp milk in a cup of hot water, mix in 4 1/2 Tbsp rice infant cereal.
6:30 From this point on, we usually do quiet activities, such as reading a book, walking around holding
Shannon, listening to soothing music, bathtime, etc. She has a hard time if she is very tired and there is
a lot of stimulation.
7:00 PJ?s and sleeper.
Bottle - 4 oz or less. This feeding is more for comfort and to top her off before bed.
After bottle, I sing her a song and rock/bounce, pat her back her to sleep. I put her in bed once
asleep. This is different than nap time for us. Once in a while, especially if she?s not breastfed, she
has so much trouble getting to sleep that we lay her down and let her cry. It usually doesn?t take
long before she?s asleep. We check on her about every 1/2 hour until we also go to bed.
*She will usually sleep from 7:00/8:00 PM to 4:00/5:00 AM. If she does wake up, I usually walk around with her and/or nurse her, mostly for comfort, but also in case she is hungry. It?s fine to give her a bottle if you think she needs it.
