2nd Trimester

When did you start your nursery?

We're just over 20 weeks- know the gender- I know what I want in the nursery.  This is baby #2 so we're using the same crib & glider which I already have.  I need a dresser/changing table but will get that soon.  When did you start the nursery? finish it? We're due the last week of the year - I don't want to be doing this over the holidays so the goal is to get this done before Thanksgiving. Am I crazy to start now?

Re: When did you start your nursery?

  • I won't start my nursery until January, there is someone living in it, and I was the move to be special so I am giving the boys a lot of new room things for Christmas.

  • For DD we started around Thanksgiving (so 28 weeks I think?) by painting the room. But it was a slow process and wasn't finished until February (she was due in March).

  • I dont think you're crazy at all!  If we weren't moving I would have started the nursery already and i'm only 12 weeks along.  Especially since you have the holidays to contend with i would encourage you to start the nursery. Otherwise it could become very stressful.  ALTHOUGH because of the holidays won't people be buying you baby stuff?
  • This is my first, so I was Super excited to get started. I'm not due until January, but I painted the room last month, and kept the momentum going. Needless to say, baby's room is almost done. I knew that I wasn't going to have any help, so I just wanted to do it when I felt like it. It's your room, do it whenever you want, I bet you'd rather have it done early then feel rushed at the end. Good Luck!
  • I don't think it's ever really too early to get started (unless you start before you even know you're pregnant).  You never know if you might deliver early, so it's better to be done ahead of time then just sit back & relax for the last weeks of your pregnancy.

  • We still haven't. We probably won't until the last minute.

  • Being #2 we have already re-established the nursery...we did this last weekend so I was just past 22 weeks.  More than anything I wanted to get it done so that DS would get over his initial curiosity long before the baby comes along.  And getting it done early is never a bad idea, the further along you are the more risk you run of early labor, not having the energy to do it, etc.
  • I don't know when I'd say I ''officially'' started work on the nursery. We just painted right before we got BFP so we knew we weren't repainting. Just a couple weeks ago we got the glider/ottoman, last week bought the mattress, this weekend bought the bedding/decorations, and yesterday bought the crib/changer. I feel like now is a great time since we know the gender and are starting our registeries and everything.

  • we dont actually have a bedroom for this baby yet hahahhaha! we are starting renovation on our house with in the next month.... and I am hoping the construction part will be done within the next 15 wks.... so I will have atleast 10 wks to get the nursery done! but I will prob buy alot of the decor while waiting and just have to throw it all together.

  • With DD #1 my husband was still doing some touch up painting on the morning I went into labor!  I definately want to have the second nursery done before that.  We've started emptying out the room and will move on to painting asap.  We seem to be busy all the time so we get a bit done whenever we have a chance.

  • I guess you can say we are starting today. The crib we wanted was in stock so they are delivering that and the dresser combo today. We emptied out the room this past weekend and we are in the process of picking out a paint color. I picked one out of Saturday and we bought a sample...I ended up not liking it though so it's back to the drawing board on that. Ideally we would like to have the room finished by the end of September. The baby shower is in October so we will be bringing home all the other stuff then. My husbands work is busiest from mid October to January so it works for us to get it done prior to that time.

  • Since this is baby #2 and it and the new baby will be sharing a room we aren't doing anything to the nursery. It'll stay in our room for the first few months then probably next spring we'll get the crib.
  • I think it's good to start now before you start getting bigger and too tired sore/tired to do anything else.I'm due first week of January and we will be starting ours soon.

  • I did my nursery really early with DS1 and it was a huge mistake.  After it was done all I could do was sit in it and wait for the baby to get there.  It was torture!

With this one I'm holding out as long as possible!

  • Our nursery was a bit of a process. I had to clean out the room, which was my office/scrapbook room.

So I started around 15 weeks clearing everything out. Around 21 weeks I patched any holes from photos or shelving and took down the wall boarder. I followed that with some sanding. My mom and I also did some art for the walls.

Week 23 we moved the furniture out and  painted, put up beadboard and chair rail.

Week 24 the carpet will go in.

We already have dresser, one will be the changing table.  I just need a bookcase, toy box, rocker and the crib.

I wanted to get as much done now as I could. I have a very busy fall, and this way after the shower I will have a place to store the baby items, and will be able to begin to put things in their place.

  • With DD1 we had everything done by the time I was 6 months pregnant. This time the kids will be sharing a room so we don't want to do it too early and invade DD's space. We'll be switching rooms around in October and we'll probably start rearranging and getthing the room ready for both of them then.
