pediatric surgeon :(

So my DS is only 6 weeks old and at his last appt the dr found a lump in his left testicle. She said it could either be a hydrocell or a hernia, either has to be evaluated by a pediatric surgeo and my little guy could need surgery. I know it is going to be way more traumatic for me than him but has anyone else gone through this? To top it off his appt is on the first day I am supposed to return to work, so needless to say work will have to wait one more day

  • My son was in NICU with a partially collapsed lung for 5 days after he was born, but I don't know if that's quite the same as what you are going through. I'll be sending T&Ps your way that everything is okay and that he doesn't need surgery.

  • My son had surgery last week wed. for Pyloric Stenosis.  I was a wreck since my DH was OOT.  He got there while I was back with my son in Pre-op.  They wheeled him back as soon as he go there!  Just remember that your the mom and you are allowed to ask lots of questions.  Also remember your motherly instincts are always usually right.  Good luck to you and your LO.  He will do just fine! T&P for you and your family!
  • DS possibly needs surgery on his kidneys.  We will find out on Sept. 8 if it is likely.  My only advice is  to get a second opinion.  If they say he needs surgery, I will seek a second opinion, just to see what someone else has to say.  That way, I will feel better knowing that it is, indeed, the best thing to do.  Also, when I take him to his ultrasond appointments at the children's hospital, it really puts things in perspective for me.  What my DS is going through isn't nearly as bad as some have it. I hope everything goes well for you.  At least surgery on his testicle doesn't sound too invasive..?

  • My DS had a hydrocele at birth.  The pediatrician said that they usually go away on their own.  By his 2 wk appt it was pretty much resolved- no intervention needed.
  • I haven't been thru this, but my son has had 2 open heart surgeries. The first at 4 days, the second at 6 months. He's having a cath tomorrow to prepare for his 3rd and hopefully final open heart surgery. It's terribly hard sending them back for surgery/procedures. I wish you the best of luck!

  • I have not been through what you are, but DS1 was hospitalized for 2 1/2 weeks when he was not even 5 mo olds due to brain tumor.  He had 3 surgeries in that periond of time in the hospital.  Now he is over 4 years old and doing great.  My T&P are with you.
