I know this gets asked every time one of us gets ready to pop out #2, but the search function and all that...
How did you have your car seats installed when you had #2? Especially if you still had #1 RF in a convertible.
Also, how did you put the kids in car, both on the same side and let the bigger climb over the infant seat base? Since we have an SUV, Marion can't climb into the backseat, I still have to lift her up.
Re: moms of 2+
BFP with no treatment!
I have a minivan. I started out with DD behind me and DS in the center seat (captains chairs, but one shifts over to be in the middle so they are next to each other).
I quickly found out that my back is not up for the task of putting an infant seat into the middle. I couldn't keep doing it and risk putting my back out again.
So I switched them to have DS behind me and DD in the middle.
I open the car, put DD in the car but don't buckle her (I put any stuff in the car at this point too), go around and put DS in and buckle him, then come back around to buckle in DD.
I put DD in first because then she is trapped and safe in the car so she can't dance into traffic or do any of the million silly things she'd try to do that would get her hit by a car. DS of course is safe in my arms or ergo or, when he still fit in it, in the infant carseat.
It does mean that I walk around my car about a million times, but it works well for us. If I have a lot of stuff I put DD in through the back and she thinks that's really fun but it's not as easy for me unless I have a 3rd row seat folded down.
I have let her crawl over DS's seat a few times, but frankly she thinks it's fun and takes FOREVER to crawl over it, even if she doesn't try to stop and sit in it. It drives me insane.
Sam is in the middle, Kaitlyn is behind me (although she was behind the passenger seat for awhile, but I wanted to be able to flip that side down again since we use the 3rd row a little more now).
I think this would work even with her rear-facing, but we're past that and now she's in a booster.
When it's just me and the girls, Kaitlyn climbs over the seat or base (I have to put her into the car) and sits in her seat, then once I have Sam in, I go around and buckle her (she has a full back booster and can't reach the buckle in it.)
When C was a newborn I would put C in first and let K crawl across to get into her seat. She was FF behind the driver side and C is RF behind the passenger seat. These days I let K in and she makes her way into her seat while I strap C into his.
Pretty soon however I am gonna have to figure out which order to put the seats in the back.
We have older one behind the drive and baby behind the passenger. We were going to do the baby in the middle, but we were fearful that Emmy would touch her or hurt her without us knowing or seeing. (this was a concern when she was a newborn, but I'm not too worried about that anymore). But we're planning on switching the carrier to the convertible in mid Sept when it's a little cooler. We're still going to keep the baby RF behind the passenger because I don't think it will fit in the middle. But may even try the middle to see. (however, Emmy sometimes likes me sitting in the middle so I'm also next to her during long car rides).
For getting them in, I hold Emmy's hand (or sometimes tell her that she has to hold on to my shirt) and put the baby in her carrier base first. Then I close the door and walk Emmy to her side of the car and get her in and buckled.
Mia behind the driver, Micah behind the passenger.
I played a game where I let Mia climb in on the passenger side and "climb through the tunnel" (or, she'd crawl under the infant seat thingy). She loved it. She'd then climb into her seat so I wouldn't have to put her in at all, really. It all happened at once and cut down on time significantly.
Luca is on the passenger side and Lila is on the driver side. I put her behind me so I could use the mirror thing if I needed to see her since her back was to me...
I put Lu in the car, put Lila in and buckle her and then go back and buckle Luca. When she was in the carrier. I'd set in on the ground and get him in first then drop her in. Dropping them off and picking them up at MDO with all the bags is CRAZY... I use an umbrella stroller for that.
