Vacation tips for travel to NYC?

My husband and I are throwing around a vacation to NYC one of these days. We would be interested in renting a condo through the website vrbo.com. But what part of town should we stay in if we want to do the typical touristy stuff? (Central Park, Times Square, Broadway, Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, etc.)

Thanks!

  • If you don't mind being in a really busy / touristy area, I would say anywhere in Midtown would be good (times square is in midtown) as there are a lot of subway lines there and also a lot of the touristy stuff nearby.  You can't really stay near the Statue of Liberty, and I wouldn't want to stay by Ground Zero also.  The southern end of Central Park is within walking distance to most areas of midtown/times square.

  • i second midtown.  close to all transportation, easy walking distance to certain things.  i wouldn't stay downtown near ground zero.

  • definitely midtown. Its in the middle so you can access downtown & central park easy. And you'll probably spend most of your time in midtown....times square, empire state building, macys, broadway, etc.
