LO cries after almost every feeding

He also spits up a lot and is very gassy. Could his crying be a sign of reflux? I'm going to call the pedi today, but I'm wondering if others have experienced this. I try to burp him after every feeding, but sometimes he won't burp!

Re: LO cries after almost every feeding

  • Do u try to burp LO in the middle of feeding?  He might be able to burp better than after the bottle is finished.

  • Hi there!  We had a similar experience with our LO.  She sometimes cries during feedings when she's on "super boob" side and my fast let down makes her uncomfortable.  My new theory is that anything that could be construed as "colic" is actually reflux, so I would definitely ask your pedi.  A couple of things though:  it takes about a week for reflux meds to be in full working order and they are dosed based on weight so you would need to change dose if your LO gains a bunch; you may want to try gas drops before going straight to reflux meds.  They have been a lifesaver for us.  I don't use them every day but they get LO's gas out pretty well when she seems uncomfortable.

Do you hold LO upright for 20 minutes after a feeding?  That may help with the spitting up.  Our DD has cues for when she needs to burp during a feeding - she kicks one leg and moves one arm (kinda like a jersey shore fist bump).  Sometimes she cries when I take her off the boob for a burp, but she calms down once she gets the burp out.  Hope this is helpful!
