diaper rash

my little one has a pretty bad diaper rash and i was wondering if anyone knows what kind of wipes to use? our peditrician told us to use non alcohol or fragrance free ones so we have been, and we are using triple paste on the rash. he has had it for a couple of weeks :( does anyone have any advice on what cleared it up for their little one?

Re: diaper rash

  • That makes me wonder if it's something worse than regular diaper rash.

Try a clean wash cloth or cotton gauze and plain water. And make sure LO is 100% dry before putting a diaper on, and check it more often.

  • we had a pretty bad one also.  it was recommended that we leave diaper off for an hour a day to air out, use cotton balls and water as wipes, and only wipe when her diaper was dirty not just pee and this worked.  what diapers are you using?  we are having a hard time with pampers which sucks because fit and leak proof wise are my favorite.  maybe try another brand.
  • I wouldn't use any wipes, just water and a baby washcloth.  Also try Boudreaux's  butt paste.

  • oh and... she said to use the blow dryer on cool to make sure she is dry before putting on anoterh diaper.
  • My LO had more of a chemical burn from the wipes. It was pretty raw so I cut up cloth diapers into small squares and wet them with warm water to clean her until her toosh healed. I used vaseline instead of A&D or Desitin. It took about 2 1/2 weeks to fully heal.
  • We had the best luck when we started rinsing out the wipes prior to use. Our pedi said it was the chemicals on the wipes (even the sensitive ones) that were contributing to the rash. We saw a noticeable difference with in a day.  Now, I don't rinse them out every time due to laziness on my part, but if I notice her getting at all red, It just takes a few diaper changes of rinsing them out to fix the problem. The other suggestion from the pedi was not to use wipes at all and only use a wash cloth and water, but that seemed like a lot of extra laundry for me and I already had the wipes :).

    Yes

Be especially careful doing this on a boy... you WILL get peed on. Stick out tongue

  • Triple Paste... Gone in three days... it is amazing stuff. It is on the pricey side but worked like a charm.

Ditto and just use paper towel and water. Don't wipe, just pat clean.
  • DD had pretty nasty diaper rash recently and we got something at BRU called "Anti Butt Monkey" cream.  We continued to use sensitive wipes (but only for a poo, not for a pee) and we gave her a few hours in her crib sleeping on her tummy, butt in the air (with a cloth diaper underneath her) and plenty of the cream on her bottom.  The rash was gone in 2 days!  The Anti Butt Monkey cream has calamine lotion, so maybe that's the difference between the ones like Desitin that only have zinc oxide?

  • My LO had a really bad one that lasted a couple weeks.  The pedi looked at it twice.  The first time he prescribed something mixed with auqaphore and told us to also soak his bottom in baking soda and water a couple times a day.  The baking soda and water helped a lot, but it didn't go totally away.  The next time they said to try some neosporin on it 3 times a day for 4 days and then on the other changes to put A&D ointment on it.  That worked, it was gone in 4 days.  It was so bad it had little red bumps.  Now when his butt gets red I start with A&D and if it doesn't clear it in a day or so, then I try a different cream (like aquaphore, desitin, butt paste, the prescription stuff) finally one of them will work.
