Totally NBR, but ewwww

I will preface by saying that DH and I live in the country. Not just out of town, the country. I am surprised we have electricity. There are no houses for a long ways. Our home is a metal building- half is living quarter- half is shop/tractor barn/laundry room... you get the idea.

I just went outside to change our clothes from the washer into the dryer. My Westie comes running up ( he has been out for his nighttime run), cute as a bug like always.  He is making this weird choking noise, and heaving. I freak out, and am contemplating the doggie Heimlich, when he barfs ON MY FEET. Now, this is not just any barf- it is a whole, partially alive toad- one eye popping out of its head. Ack.

Needless to say, I then immediately barfed for the first time in several weeks.

I don't know what I am going to do with this dog- he grabbed a lizard outside earlier this summer, then snuck it in our house and flipped it around in the bathroom.... he caught a mouse, killed it, brought it inside and hid it in my purse after we cut hay this year. Then, he sits there and waits until I give and look in the purse.  He is always so proud of himself and I can't help but LOL.

I am wondering what presents he brings the baby, and a bit worried about the tricks he will teach it!

  • wow! you just made my night when I realized you lived in Texas, because gifts from the four legged friends sounded familiar.. I"m glad you found it funny enough to share with us!

  • lol! before my dog got arthritis, she would go outside and catch birds out of the air and bring them to our back door. Now she eats those giant junebug like things that are everywhere all over Texas... those and spiders. Got to love dogs! haha

  • LOL!  My dog hung around when we were processing chickens and she stole the heads, we found them later on the porch, on the back steps, in my garden...  When a predator gets a hold of one of my layers and leaves bits behind my dogs always find them and bring them close...EW!  That and they love to eat "goat berries" and roll in the chicken poop on the grass.

I feel your eww!  Gotta love country living Wink

  • That story cracked me up!!  Isn't it cute how they are so proud of themselves when they bring you presents??

     Thanks for sharing!

  • One of my 3 pups thought it would be awesome to bring me a dead snake.  THANK GOD it was dead or I would have killed the dog lol  I hear ya about country living :)  We've got coyotes, foxes, turkeys, mice, and all kinds of fun critters in the woods around our house!

Cute story though - thanks for sharing... so gross about the eye popping out of the frog's head! lol

  • I need a dog.  I just bought five acres and it'll be just me and LO once he/she arrives.  I'm going to do the whole self-sufficient thing (to the greatest extent possible), so I just can't wait to see what country-life has in store for me.  Smile
