Shopping carts and parking lots

Seriously, is it that hard to walk your grocery cart over to one of the 200 shopping cart spots they have in every grocery store parking lot?

If my pregnant butt can waddle the 30 feet in the 112 degree heat, you can too.

I just had to move FOUR shopping carts from around my car before I could even pull out of my parking space - and I was just running in for two things.  I couldn't have been in there longer than ten minutes.

There should be some kind of fine, especially for the people who just leave their carts in the middle of an empty space so you pull halfway in only to realize that you can't park there without ramming your bumper into a cart.  Lazy jerks!

Re: Shopping carts and parking lots

  • did you grocery store ever have the quarter things? You had to put a quarter in to get your cart, but you got your quarter back when you took it back.  It didn't last though...boo

They should do something like that again!

and for real, if you don't want to walk all the way back to the return corral thing, dont leave it in an empty space...thats so rude and a tease!!!

  • OMG I know what you mean, I went to the store today and it started to pour as I put groceries in back seat.  I couldn't get out of my space though b.c there were carts on the passenger side of my car, and one behind it. You know what was on the drivers side? The cart "home"! I was so pissed and drenched by the time I got home.

  • I've been known to innocently call people out on it: "Oh, ma'am! You forgot your cart."

I just fell in love with you a little.

  • That's what I loved about driving a beater car I would just gently move those carts out of my way when pulling in to a spot. I wouldn't "ram" them so they went flying into other cars, I would move just enough to let me get in the spot (I drove a small neon, so I didn't need the entire spot) But I agree I absolutely hate it I will take a cart with me from the parking lot even if I don't need it in the store. And then when I am done I walk it back to the store entrance! When I see someone just putting a cart out of the way of their car I want to scream at them for being so damn lazy.

Love it! I am so going to use this when I go grocery shopping tomorrow because I am sure someone will do it!

  • Several years ago there was an article in the paper about people not returning their carts to the cart corrals. It drives me bonkers! Luckily, the only place I really have to deal with it is Walmart, and I swore that place off a couple years ago. Life is much better without it.

  • There was  big controversey over whether or not to return the cart on the 9-12 board a few weeks back. I was shocked how many people feel that having a baby to put on the car gives them an excuse not to return the cart. For this reason I park close the cart corral. Baby gets in the car and I don't have to walk far to return the cart, or I return the cart with DD and don't have far to carry her back to the car. Problem solved.

  • I have back issues and walking distances is painful for me, mostly after shopping with all the walking and bending, so I park near the corrals, or as close to the doors as possible...how hard is it?

This is EXACTLY what I do.

What makes me REALLY fuming though is the people parking the the spots designated for people with children.  I have 2 and I am pregnant.  I like these spots.  They are RIGHT next to the cart home for a reason.  I give everyone the crap eye when I see them parking there .  Most don't even have a car seat IN THE CAR.  So one would assume they are not a parent.

If you don't have a child in the car, don't park there!  They know better about handicapped spots...well most of the time at least.

Yeah...my pics were so old. I got 3 kids. Nuff said. :)

This happens at the BJs Wholesale all the time, and BRU too! Our grocery stores around here don't have those designated parking spots. Target used to but remodeled and moved their door and then added extra handicap spots and no family spots. Um pretty much every time I go to Target there are for more pregnant women with children than handicapped people. I realize pg women may be more capable of getting around, but I really got used to those spots!

  • Just to play devil's advocate...

With DS being so little, he goes from the cart, directly into the carseat.  If for some reason I wasn't able to find a parking spot near one of the corrals, I'm not going to leave him in the car, alone, while I trot off to a corral.  I don't leave it in the middle of a spot but I will park it in front of and to the side of my car so I don't have to leave him alone.

I wish we had these here.  None of my grocery stores or any of the baby stores I've been to here have had these spots.  The one place I have seen it is CVS - and there are seriously twenty parking spaces in the whole lot so it doesn't offer much of an advantage.

     (sorry for double post)

I do this.  Ds goes straight into the car, i'm not leaving him in the buggy while I load groceries, you never know when it will roll or if there is some crazy driver coming around the corner.  So I put my buggy in front of my vehicle if I have to.

Yup- I have to admit I do this too.  If i'm not parked buy a cart thing, I just place my buggy beside my car.  I'm not leaving my daughter in the car just to return a cart. They have people outside that get paid to pick those things up :) At Wal-mart they have on bright orange shirts that say "cart crew"

  • eh. If there's one nearby I will always return it. If it's all the way down the aisle or two rows over, I don't even try. I don't leave it in the middle of the spot though, i  put it off to the side. Call me lazy, but like someone else said people get paid to collect carts. I call it job security for them.
