s/o Why are almost all Halloween decorations scary? (NBR)

My daughter is 13 months old.  She's very skiddish and jumpy (like her mama).  I'm looking for ideas on how to decorate for our first Halloween at home and every thing I've found is scary.  I don't want her to be having nightmares or something because of our Halloween decorations. This is why last year she was a lady bug and this year she'll be a pumpkin.

  • You could decorate like an Autumn Harvest or something and throw in a few pumpkins with happy faces on them.  Then, when Halloween is over, just take the holiday specific stuff out and use the rest for Thanksgiving decorations.

  • I know Huh?  I'm not a huge fan of Halloween, and it's especially because of the gory decor.  Do you have Hobby Lobby in Western MI?  They normally have some cute pumpkin things.  I just like to decorate for fall with pumpkins, squash, gourds, Indian corn and candles and then do one happy-looking jack o' lantern.  She'll be pretty young for this, but last year DS and I made all kinds of silly jack o' lantern faces on orange paper plates with black construction paper and green stems on top.  She could help with the glue stick a little bit maybe?? Big Smile  So it'll mostly be a mommy project, but she can watch and enjoy!!

  • They have some really cute purple glittery witch stuff out there too!

I def agree with the hobby lobby thing... They have some really Cute halloween decoration stuff.

I got a door hanger for our front door last year that was purple and black and glittery. and it said "the witch is..." and there was a little hat that hangs down from it and one side says in and the other says out.

that kind of stuff wouldnt be too scary for your DD

  • I am pretty much obsessed with Halloween and I shop ALL OVER for decorations - and I can recommend a couple places. I don't know if you have these stores where you live, but some really cute Halloween stuff (not scary) is at Cracker Barrel, and Kirkland's. And also, I second the Hobby Lobby suggestion - there is also a place called Michael's which is just the same as Hobby Lobby. Usually, Target will have some cute stuff too. Hopefully that helps!

  • My son was terrified of the decor when he was 1-3 yrs. He's still skitterish around them really, but now he knows they're not real.

I told him skeletons were pirates. To this day, he calls skeletons Pirates.
