TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Clomid

I am thinking of calling my ob, whom I love dearly. What do you think about me trying a clomid cycle before moving to ivf? I will not do another iui cycle. My RE would not give me clomid and only said something about my age ::insert tears here:: I took Pregnancy Prep, which does have chaste berry in it, this last cycle. Since it's cd1, what do you think? Is it worth a shot? Will it make much a difference? Or just stick with pregnancy prep and plan on ivf October or November? Ramblings over. Eta: I did notice that I had no spotting today, just full on af. Mabye this is from the pregnancy prep? Good yea?

Re: Clomid

  • I'm not sure I know enough about clomid.  What was the RE's concern regarding your age and clomid?  Did they explain it to you?  Or was it just a general thought that it wouldn't work?

If there was no real reason to them saying no, I would definitely give it a try.  What can it hurt?

  • Personally, I would not take clomid from an OB, only from an RE.  Will you be monitored on clomid?  One of the common side effects of clomid is hostile cm, which is why IUI is commonly done with clomid.  Were you monitored during your IUI cycles?

  • I'd give it a shot.  The worst she can do is say no, right?  I wish my OB would have just tried Clomid.....but instead it's on to the RE.

  • My RE had no reasons to share but went on to say higher success with injectables and iui. I will not do a monitored iui cycle ever ever again. If I go back to my RE it will be for ivf only. I know of the clomid side effects and my ob wanted to put me on it over a year ago. I do not think my eggs mature enough on their own, so I thought clomid would help with that. Eta: my ob also specializes in infertiltity and high risk.
  • I haven't tried Clomid so I'm not an expert, but why not? I would think they would want to exhaust every other option before IVF, right?

  • I would say give it a try as long as your OB doesn't have a specific reason you shouldn't.

  • I would give it a shot my RE never mentioned an issue with my age and I am 39

  • IMO, its worth a try...though sometimes Clomid can do more harm than good, if you don't O on your own, then it can't hurt.  I've had unmonitiored cycles on Clomid, as long as the dosage is low, the risk is pretty low.

    My thoughts exactly.

  • I would give it a try. Hopefully it will work and you don't need ivf. If you have any ivf questions let me know I have done it 3 times.

  • If you take it with your OB you need to make sure you are going to be monitored.  If not, then don't take it.  I did 3 cycles and got 2 follies each time, but of course no bfp.
