Dr appt update

I met with one of the midwifes in the practice who I've met once before I really like her! She did my annual exam since it's almost due and then talked to me about stuff to avoid and stuff that's ok to have. Mostly medication related, but it's not really a big deal since I RARELY take anything except my allergy pills. Did anyone's Ob say NOT to eat over easy eggs? My initial OB in HI said not to but no one since has said anything... of course I'm craving them but nervous to even try it! I should have asked but I forgot...

I told her about the yellowish discharge and she sent it for a culture just to be sure. Believe it or not she said that TONS of women have yellow discharge during pregnancy and she said most of them are using body wash and that makes it worse. Go figure I use regular Dove, unscented body wash but she said to stick with Dove or Ivory bar soap, so I'll be buying that next time. She also said to take a bath with baking soda in the water to neutralize things.

She said they typically don't listen for a HB since the baby is so tiny and it's so hard to hear but given the situation and my nervousness, she did and YAY there it was! It took her about 5 mins but babes was hanging out on my left side.

Next up: I'm scheduled for blood work next week and then the 1st tri ultrasound will be sometime around 13 weeks and another OB appt at 14 weeks.

  • yay congrats - I was too early to comment earlier.

I'm totally a "go with your gut instincts" on most things, including food while pregnant - but with the egg recall I definitely would be hesitant to eat commercial eggs - they (FDA) apparently don't even have a clue where/how the salmonella is coming from w/in the large commercial egg market.  The current advice is to fully cook ALL eggs right now.

We get our eggs from a neighbor so I haven't been too concerned - maybe find some farm fresh ones?

  • oh yay!  lots of good news!

as for the eggs, my dr never mentioned not to eat anything, she only gave me a list of meds that were okay to take.  all of the food info I got, I read in books/online.  I did ask her about chicken salad just b/c I heard mixed things & she said that was fine.  I have always heard runny eggs are risky (even when not pg), but you could always just call and double check with the nurse at your dr's office just to make sure.

  • Yaaaay that's great news!

About the eggs, my doctor didn't specifically forbid me from eating them, but she did say no hollandaise sauce, so I kinda put them in the same category and didn't eat runny eggs.

Oh, and - TMI ALERT! - I was one of the women who had the discharge the whole.freaking.pregnancy. I should have bought stock in pantyliners lol!

OMG you would not believe how bad it was toward the end (although if the things I read are to be believed, it was probably a bit of leaked pee by that point too). Pregnancy is so charming. Stick out tongue

  • Great news! Thanks for the update!

Yeah, no partially-cooked eggs while pg (especially since that recent salmonella egg recall) so over easy is not recommended.

  • glad everything went well!! funny how every PG is different huh? i was so happy to have absolutely no discharge my entire PG :) as for the eggs, not that DH is an ob or anything but he said it's probably too risky to do the over easy eggs while PG
  • yay for hearing the heartbeat!

I had a discharge that lasted most of my pg too - agree with lisa - should have bought stock in pantiliners!
