North Dakota Babies

Hello from bed rest!

Just wanted to post and say I'm doing fine just adjusting to bed rest.  Thanks to everyone for the well wishes, thoughts, prayers, and vibes.  And thanks to Nicole (MrsAzull) for the updates to the board!

Blood pressure stabilized and my lab values started coming down so they decided to let little one cook a bit longer.  Current plan is to induce at 37 weeks (I'm currently at 35.5 weeks) but we're hoping nature takes its course first.  They will let me go to my due date if the liver values, protein in the urine, and blood pressure are stable.  But we're hoping that by waiting a week and a half or so that the little boy's lungs will be more mature making any trips to the NICU short if necessary at all.  They are estimating his current weight at 7 pound by physical exam so even if they are a bit off he's still at a good weight.

Both DH and I are very pleased with the hospital, the staff (nurses and support staff), and my OB.  Although it was a pain in the arse, I'm glad my doc was proactive at running the blood work and urine screen that sent me to the hospital.  And I'd recommend that if you're blood pressure spikes in pregnancy (like mine did at 140/100) and your doc does a wait and see I'd suggest asking about getting the blood work and urine analysis done.  It's not that much of an inconvenience and sometimes you find stuff like they did with mine that makes you better off to catch preeclampsia soon so you can make an informed decision and have a chance at a vaginal delivery rather than catching it late and being forced into a c-section because of health risk to mom.  Sometimes you get lucky and as much as bed rest sucks, at least we know what's going on and know what to watch for.

Hope everyone is doing well and if not you're definitely in my T&P!

Re: Hello from bed rest!

  • Glad to hear that the blood pressure has stabilized.  Enjoy bed rest, I know it is hard, but at least you likely won't be on it for long.  Enjoy bumping :)

  • Glad that they can let him bake awhile longer!  Ian was 7lbs 1oz at 36weeks and no NICU stay, so let's hope yours doesn't need one either.  Did they give you the steriod shot to mature his lungs?  I think my OB said at 34w that was her main concern for me since his weight and anatomy were looking good on ultrasounds.

Bed rest sucks...but at least you can bump!  Just enjoy laying on that left side when needed! ;)

  • Hi Christina! I'm so glad they let you go home so the little guy can bake a bit longer. Hopefully bed rest isn't too bad for you.

  • Glad to hear things are getting better! You have such a positive attitude which is awesome!! I know Bed rest must stink, but you only have a couple of weeks to go!!!! It is all worth it to meet that beautiful baby boy you are carrying!!!
  • I'm happy to hear that your BP has stabilized and they let you go home.  I hope bed rest isn't too terrible for you and you get some time to relax before the little one makes an appearance!
  • Good to hear from you and thinking about you tons. GL with bed rest and hope that means you'll be around a little bit more on here. :)

Thanks for your comments!  Makes me feel a lot better about everything just because it is reasonable that he's really about 7 pounds and could avoid the NICU.  I didn't get a steroid shot I think because I'm almost at 36 weeks.  Didn't think to ask honestly and won't see the doctor for a week at this point.  Maybe its because I wasn't 34 weeks.  Who knows.  I get an ultrasound tomorrow and non-stress test with lab values rerun on Thursday.  I'm on bed rest but I've gotten permission to drive as long as I don't have any symptoms (headache, etc) of a problem.  Better than nothing.
