I just started IUIs and my trainer has asked that should I become pregnant I purchase a heart rate monitor and get advice from my doc about safe heart rates.
Do you use one? Do you have one you like or dislike? Anything to pay attention to when purchasing?
Re: please recommend your heart rate monitor
I wouldn't get too concerned about heart rate if you get pregnant. It's an old myth that you should keep your heart rate less than 140. I would go by how you feel and don't over exert yourself. If you can manage a conversation, you're not overtraining. I would recommend making sure that you are well hydrated. The big concern, especially in the first trimester is making sure you don't overheat. Getting overheated can be dangerous for the fetus. I am not sure of your level of fitness now, but it's also a good idea not to increase it too much once you do get pregnant. (like if you're not running more than 5k now, then I wouldn't make running a half marathon a goal in your pregnancy)
Those are the guidelines I went by when I was pregnant. I did use a heart rate monitor, more for curiosity, and I generally always wear one anyway. I have this one https://www.timex.ca/IRONMAN-RACE-TRAINER-KIT-Digital-Heart-Rate-Monitor-Midsize-SK5K264-P268C162.aspx?l=e and I am very happy with it. They probably make a cheaper one as well. Polar also makes good heart rate monitors. I've always used Timex though, so I can't say anything else about that. If you're only going to use one during pregnancy, you could buy a very simple one. They all basically work the same, but the more you pay for, the more features you get. The only thing that I can think of in my experience, is make sure that you can get a replacement strap for the monitor you buy. I ended up having to buy a whole new watch cause the strap on my old one broke, and I couldn't get a new strap only.
Sorry for rambling!
Good luck with your IUI!!
I have this one that I use for running https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=63511 and I also use the same heart rate monitor with this computer for cycling https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=160&pID=36728
I used to have a watch w/ an ant agent & it always gave me problems during the upload. These both can plug right into the USB port & are simple to upload.
Good luck!
