Hawaii Babies

Dr's appt today

Today is my first official OB appt. Last time was just a quick appt telling me that baby had a HB and that I was in fact KU. This time I have a full appt to tell me all of the do's and don't of pregnancy. I'm nervous! We're 10 weeks and we lost the last baby when I was 8 weeks (pregnancy grew to 6 1/2 weeks), so we've officially made it further than last time but I'm still nervous. Will they be able to hear the HB with the doppler? If they don't try should I request it? I really want the comfort of hearing it again to be sure that all is good in there... I know it seems crazy but I'm still a little nervous about the whole thing...

I also have some questions about me going into preterm labor last time, about (TMI) this yellowish discharge that I've had off and on which I've read could mean my progesterone levels are off... anything else you think I should ask?

Re: Dr's appt today

  • I only saw a heartbeat at 6w5d, I wasn't given the opportunity to hear one, but I'm assuming I will when I go in at 10 weeks?

I just wanted to say good luck and sending you "hearing the heartbeat" vibes today :)

  • yes, i would assume they would try to hear the heartbeat today, especially given the m/c last time!  if not, you should definitely ask.

just be forewarned though - we weren't able to find a heartbeat with the doppler at 9w4d, and they scheduled me for an ultrasound later that afternoon - everything ended up to be fine, but it was still terrifying.  I remember coming home in between appointments, and scrolling back to find tara's(?) post where she had been in a similar situation.  i don't know if a few more days (ie, waiting until the full 10w) would have made a difference for me.  after the ultrasound, the MW admitted she was surprised b/c i'm fairly thin at that point, she wouldn't have expected not to be able to hear it - and my uterus felt a bit on the small side at that time, but it could have been that my uterus was just tilted backwards.

anyhow, good luck today!  lots of positive thoughts coming your way.

  • i agree with pp.  I think they will try to find the hb with the doppler, but they may not be able to just b/c it is so early on.  But if they don't even try, I would ask.

good luck at the appt & keep us posted!

Yep, Sandra's right, same situation for me but they did call for an U/S and everything was fine... a blessing in disguise because I could SEE the LO which was incredible (as you know from experience :)).

I'll be thinking of you today Sarah and can't wait to hear how your little baby is progressing.  And why not ask to try and hear the heartbeat, asking never hurt anyone.  So excited for you, please give us an update later :)

  • I had my very first OB appointment at 8 weeks. They did a u/s to see if there really is a fetus and we also heard the heartbeat. It seemed like it was the norm in my doc's office. At 10 wks, I would think you should be able to hear the HB.

Sending you a lot of positive vibes :-).
