Switching daycares

My DS is starting back at daycare this week after being home with me this summer (DH and I are both teachers).  We decided to switch to a less expensive daycare center.  The transition this morning was about as horrible as you could imagine.  I understand it's only day #1 and I am absolutely going to give it time but how long would you give it before you switched back to the former daycare which DS loved?  (BTW - we switched because center #2 will be cheaper for when baby #2 arrives....for just one child, it's not a huge $$ difference so we could swing it for a year)

    How different are the daycares?  Did DS seem to like the new one when you took him to visit? We switched my DS when he was 17 months.  The first week went really well (but it was all new people, toys, etc. and they have a backyard that he didn't have at the old daycare).  Then the next couple weeks were torture.  He was so upset and clingy.  He is over that now and loves his daycare.  I wouldgive it a few weeks before making any decisions.  Transitions are tough on LO's.  They are resilient, but it does take a while to get used to new people/places.  GL!

    We switched centers when my DD was 15 months. Just got accepted in to one I liked better. Anyway, first week was so-so, 2nd week was a nightmare, 3 week got much better, and then 4th week I'd finally say it was good. The transition was tough - much more so than I expected. I felt so bad and it was hard getting through since we didn't have to change, etc. Hang in there. It will definitely get better!

    We were forced to switch daycares due to the old one closing when DS#1 was 19 months. It took almost six weeks to even get close to an okay drop off even then it was still hit or miss. We just kept trying different tactics and routines until we found something that worked. Now drop off ends with a kiss and a goodbye mommy. Hang in there - it does get better I promise!
