Detroit Babies

2nd tri question

Was the second trimester actually "easy" for you?  I haven't had morning sickness at all but I feel like I'm still hungry more often, I still have food aversions, I'm still tired a lot - I know these are super easy symptoms but I guess with all the hype I expected the second tri to just be three months of sporting an obviously belly bump and enjoying my time before it really hit in the third.

I know I still have a few days left before I officially hit the second trimester but I thought I'd be feeling the symptoms winding down.  Thanks!

Re: 2nd tri question

  • I would say about 16-17 weeks. It helps by that time you will able to feel little flutters in there (almost like popcorn to me). The RLP isn't fun, but it gets better later in the 2nd tri, I promise!

  • The 2nd trimester has been easier.  Around 17 weeks, I finally started waking up not feeling green.  I am over 21 weeks now and still feel tired a lot.  Can't say you will exactly sport an obvious belly bump-though.  Depending on the day and what I wear it is hard for most people to tell I am pregnant (instead of just heavier than normal).
  • Second tri does get better.  I think it's pretty exciting-you have the gender ultrasound, you can start to feel kicks. you are getting more comfortable with the pregnancy and you start to show (I think people thought I was just eating too many donuts and getting pudgy).

I had food aversions the whole time-especially with non breaded chicken. I could eat chicken tenders or nuggets, but that was it-no boneless chicken.

The tiredness went away for a bit-I began to regain some energy 2nd tri.

I felt great until about week 34, then you are done and just want to meet the baby!

  • Week 14 was the last week I felt sick/crappy.  After that I felt great.  Don't worry, your energy will return and you will get hungrier.  The RLP will start to increase, which isn't fun like Amy said, but it was reassurance to me that everything was growing!  Haha :)  And your bump will pop out of nowhere, seriously.  It was like one day I went to bed with no belly then BAM!  I woke up the next morning and had a nice bump :)

  • The 2nd trimester was pretty easy for me.  Week 11/12 was the last time I remember feeling sick.  I had more energy and was able to work on the nursery, go shopping, just enjoy being pregnant.  Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon!

  • Everyone is obviously different but 2nd tri wasnt easy for me :(  I never felt sick to my stomach through my whole pregnancy, but 2nd tri I had one giant continuous headache.  Dr said it was hormones.

Also 2nd tri is when I started to feel faint everytime I stood up and even sometimes when I was sitting.  I had to get some sexy compression hoes.  Lucas was pressing on one of my veins and restricting blood to my heart and brain, and he decided that that was the most comfortable way to be in there until he came out :)

  • I'm a few days away too and i'm feeling MUCH better!
  • i was lucky in that 1st tri wasn't too bad for me so i don't have much for comparison.

i really liked 2nd tri and it seemed to fly by.  you get to go public with your pregnancy and talk about it with people.  the appts start to get more fun, hearing the hb and getting u/s that don't look like a little bean but actually look like a baby.  you get to feel the baby start moving around which is awesome.  i felt comfortable starting to really plan for the baby starting 2nd tri which means picking out stuff for the nursery and working on that.

  • I guess I am the only horror story. I threw up daily (multiple times a day) from 9 weeks through 27 weeks, now I only do it a few times a week. But I am not totally done with it.

  • I have been lucky too and have not had any vomiting but I would get extremely nauseaus at night. ?I remember getting to 12/13 weeks and thinking... "aren't I supposed to be done with this!?". ?It was probably closer to 18/19 weeks that I started to feel more "normal" whatever that means while pregnant. I was able to stay up to a more normal hour, 10 sometimes even 11 at night! ?Now that I'm 31 weeks, I'm getting extremely tired again early and just have an overall feeling of ickiness. ?Some days are worse than others. ?I will admit, I have not liked being pregnant- at all! ?I still have 9 weeks to go but I'm ready to be done now. ?:/?

You are not alone.  I think second tri was the worst, even though I had MS from 6-24 weeks and it came back at 28 weeks until I delivered.  I broke blood vessels in my face I threw up so much.  I also had CTS and had to wear a back brace because of all the problems that I had.

Pregnancy is so different for everyone, and every baby.  I wish you the best and hope that you start to feel better soon.  Someone asked my DH which was worse, a pregnant woman or a newborn, and he answered the pregnant woman.  After those horrible 9 months, we still want to expand our family.  Hang in there!
