Sleep questions - please help me

I will take any advice anyone has to offer.  My LO will go about 4 to 4.5 hours at night between feedings if he sleeps in bed with me but wakes up very often if I try to put him in his bassinet.  For example last night I fed him at 2:30 and he was fast asleep again by 3:15.  I put him back in his bassinet and he woke up at 4.  Clearly he was sleeping from 3:15 until 4.  I tried to soothe him and get him to go back to sleep in there but he would not calm down until I took him into bed with me.  The same thing happened again this morning at 7.  He slept in his bassinet for an hour and then woke up screaming.  I know they say that they do not form bad habits this early but I do not want to create a situation where he refuses to sleep anywhere but next to me.  Please tell me this has happened to other people but at some point they are willing to sleep in their bassinet/crib.  And yes - he is swaddled tightly in his swaddle me.  I also have a sleep sheep in there with him.  If I give him a pacifier he will calm down but only until he spits it out.  I don't know what to do but I always end up letting him sleep in bed because I want to get some sleep.

  • Have you tried a sleep positioner? maybe some music while he's in the bassinet?

  • this didnt work for our LO but did for a friends. If you take the t-shirt, tank top that you wore for the day and lay it next to his face, he will continue to smell you and be comforted by it.
  • I am in the same situation as you except I haven't put her in the bed with me because I am scared something is going to happen to her. I am seriously thinking about figuring out some way for her to sleep with me after the night we had last night. I am going on about 2 hours of sleep since 3:30 this morning.

I've heard of this before, but I would be afraid to leave something like that so close to his face when he is sleeping (I'm terrified of something covering his face so that he can't breathe).

  • Our little one seems to like to sleep on her side still swaddled.  She does nap much better during the day on my bed instead of the crib for some reason. She has been waking up during the night for the past week one to two times when before that she was sleeping alot more.  I think it is a growth spurt.  I have gone back and forth between her sleeping with me and not since I don't get any sleep when she is acting like above and I have a few other kiddos to keep up with. She seems to be teething too as she naws on my thumb knuckle so we got her some teething rings and she really likes them.  I have tried to focus on making sure she is getting full feedings during the day and not letting her sleep through a feeding during the daylight hours. Drink lots of water to keep up your supply even tho you are so tired. Nap during the day when baby is napping if you can!! Maybe that will help you?  Hang in there!
  • We had the same issue.  She wanted to be on top of someone to sleep no matter what time or where.  To get her to sleep by herself we started her on a nighttime routine.  She gets a bath first, then she eats, then whatever it takes to get her to sleep (rocking, patting, or dancing).  I wait for 10-15 minutes of her being asleep to make sure that she is out, then I put her down in the crib or bassinet.  Sometimes it takes a few times in the beginning of me putting her down before she stays out for 4 hours.  Oh and she is swaddled after her bath.  I can't guaruntee this will work for you but this is what has worked for us.  Good luck!
