Remember to have a full bladder. My cousin went in last week and forgot to make sure her bladder was full and therefore they couldn't see what she was having and couldn't get a good shot of the face. They now have to go back in in 4 wks. Just wanted to remind everyone a full bladder is a must. Good luck to everyone!!!
Re: Reminder for all those having their BIG ultrasounds this week..
On my script for the u/s, it says its only required for a transvaginal u/s to have a full bladder.
I didn't have a full bladder with my daughter's u/s either and they got all the measurements they needed.
I had never heard the full bladder thing, but everyone told me to drink a caffinated, carbonated drink about 30 min before the appointment because it gets LO moving around so they can be sure to get the shot. I drank a Pepsi on the way to the appointment and our little boy was bouncing off the walls. It was great to see him moving and shaking and we were able to see the sex with no problem.
Ditto.
this is not true. at least not for me. i was actually scolded for drinking too much---had to empty my bladder THREE TIMES because it was so full and taking up the entire picture.
call first.
This. I barely could give a sample and they had no problems getting measurements on the baby and i'm only 16 weeks. Granted it wasn't the big U/S. But if they had no problems gettin to the baby at 16 weeks with an empty bladder, i wouldn't think they would have a problem at 20
ditto. I had to empty bladder twice during my ultrasound! I also drank OJ and ate some oreos before hoping that baby would be moving so we could find out the sex- but baby had a different plan and just covered it's little face and then covered its bottom when they were trying to get measurements of its spine... so now we wait 4 more weeks! Stubborn baby- must get that from DH!
I was told to have a full bladder as well but NOT to see the baby. The full bladder is to measure the cervix. The baby is totally big enough to see without a full bladder.
(You don't need a full bladder for a transvag u/s.)
For mine they just told me to drink 16 oz. of something non-carbonated 30 minutes before I come in.
I guess every office has a different preference.
Maybe it is different for everyone but my dr also said a full bladder is a must and for trans vaginal they want an empty bladder (i've had both). When I asked my cousin why they couldn't see what htey needed to she said because her bladder wasn't full enough. She was very upset that she forgot about that part of it. I'd rather have a full bladder and be told it's too full and to empty some of it then to not have a full enough bladder and have to come back.
I have my ultrasound today...maybe I'll ask the tech why they want a full bladder.
Ditto this for me.
Also, for trans-vag u/s, the tech always asks me to emply bladder 1st and my office says there is enough fluid after 12 weeks that a full bladder is not required. I guess every office has a different opinion though.
I will be having a large oj on the way to the appointment because that always seems to get my LO going!

This was me too. I had to pee before I got there but held it b/c I didn't know if my bladder should be full or not..and they had me go right after they started.
