New to The Bump

Newbie and so excited to be here! :)

I've been sneaking onto the bump pretty much since we got married almost a year ago, and now that we've decided to try and get pregnant I feel like I can "come out" and be a member! So excited. :)

I got off the pill as of June 1 and we've been using condoms until very recently to let my body try to regulate itself and be able to plan things a little better. My gyno recommended me getting off even earlier when I  told her we were hoping to be pregnant by the end of Sept. since my periods are not always regular. Well, I got my period the second week of July and that's the last I've seen of it! ;) We weren't really trying so I was really surprised and thought I could be pregnant. Well, my period will be 2 weeks late tomorrow and I've taken four pregnancy tests, the last one on Thursday so I am pretty positive I'm not pregnant. I'm sure that this has happened to other people so I'm trying not to worry..anyone else's period come and go like mine after getting off BC? Any ideas on how to family plan in the meantime?

Thanks ladies!

  • Welcome to the TTC club! Glad you're excited to be here! In regards to your question - coming off birth control can really do a number on your cycles unfortunately. For some, it takes a few months up to a year to regulate. My suggestion right now - take a pg test every week until you either get a positive or until you reach up to 60 days after your last period. If you get that far, call your doctor.

Here are some suggestions in the meantime - you can just keep humping it out with your husband in case you still ovulate in this cycle. I recommend picking up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I got it from the library or you can get it from amazon for cheap. It has a lot of information in it and it really has been eye-opening what I did NOT know about my body that I do now! Along with that, you can sign up for fertilityfriend.com (click on the ticker in my siggy) for some VERY helpful advice. There are tutorials and a lot of information there to help you track your cycles and ovulation.

And lastly, if you'd like some more advice from some helpful ladies who are also TTC, come on over to the Trying to Get Pregnant Board (TTGP) and introduce yourself when you're ready. Good luck!

  • I am new to this, too, so sorry i don't have any ideas on planning.  But I just wanted to say congrats.  We haven't been trying or anything, but several months ago my period was 2 weeks late and I took a test and it was negative. So even though we were kind of like holy crap when I was late, when it was negative we were actually a little bummed out.  But then of course, it came like 2 days later.  But with you not having it since July, and you are getting negatives anyway, maybe you should go to the doctor.  It is right that getting off the pill will create craziness in your cycle, but that seems like a long time, although I am not a doctor of course and it could be completely normal!

Good luck with getting pregnant.  Doesn't it seem like when you want something so bad, it takes forever????  It's like being a kid and waiting for the last day of school!

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! :) I will keep you updated!

I know what you mean about it taking forever...I used to be so nervous about possibly being pregnant and now that I want to be, it seems like it's taking forever! All in due time though, right? :)
