Need advice about UTI

For those of who who have had a UTI what did it feel like? I have never had one before.

I know all the text book symptoms of UTI but I was just curious if sharp pains are part of it during PG. I think I may have a possible UTI but I am not 100% sure. I will go see a Dr but it is Sunday so I am SOL on that one unless I go to Urgent Care.

I had a suspicion of UTI for about a week but wasn't sure but now for the past 2 days I have been crampy and I have been having sharp pains (a lot of them occur during walking).  There is no spotting so I am not concerned about that.

  • I haven't had one since I've been pregnant, but I normally get them on occasion.  My symptoms have varied...sometimes I've had the normal burn when you pee and feeling like you have to pee often, but one time I only had terrible cramps and a kind of feeling of fullness in my abdomen.  Of course we have that feeling all of the time now, so it's hard to tell.  Until you know for sure, just drink tons of water and that helps to start to clear it and helps symptoms.

Nope, not on my end. The cramps/sharp pains are the only thing I have been having. That and sometimes having to pee and not a whole lot comes out but that is not so often so that is why I was ify on it.

Thank you. Agree to the hard to tell part in regards to the cramps.

Cramps...I had cramping the other day and feeling like having to pee and not going that much are also pregnancy induced.  I would call your dr. and they could do a urine test on you.  I would get myself some cranberry juice and drink some of that and lots of water in the meantime.  Feel better soon.

  • I had chronic UTIs for about a year and a half. For me, in the beginning I only knew because my urine smelled funny; kind of a smokey organic smell. Then they started getting painful. I would go to the bathroom and there would be shooting pains up the urethra at the end of the flow. Then it progressed to urinating blood.

I had to have a cystoscopy because they thought I may have bladder cancer. Everything was fine and it turns out that the cycstoscopy flushed me out and I haven't had one since. I am at a higher risk for it happening again in pregnancy so I am a little terrified. So far I have been ok though. I hope you don't have one because they suck. If you suspect that you do, go in right away before it gets painful.

  • The feeling of having to pee and only a little coming out is a typical sign of a UTI as well.  If the pain gets bad but then goes away, it could also be a kidney stone (my DH just had one, and he could only pee a little, and then the pain set in right after he used the bathroom).  As everyone else said, water, cranberry juice, and go to the doc in the morning.  PG women are especially prone to them!
  • For me... hurts to pee or is difficult to pee and always feeling like you have to go. My last one, I also had a bladder infection with it and my bladder ached like crazy and I ran a small fever. Antibiotics and AZO cranberry tabs really help. If you even suspect one, call your doc in the AM.
