Pilates???

So I did pilates for about a year before I got pg.  My doctor said still keep doing it but eventually down the line I will not be able to do some of the moves.  Just curious what everyone else is doing to keep fit?

P.s. I also walk our fur balls 2-3x a week around our neighborhood.

Re: Pilates???

  • why don't you buy a pilates disc for pregnancy? (if you don't have one already)

  • I still do Pilates too (regular Pilates, no variations yet). Haven't gotten yet a pregnancy dvd but I will probably get there.
  • I always loved pilates so I got a prenatal pilates dvd to make sure I was being safe with all the moves. I think it was called 10 minute pilates solutions- you can customize workouts-theres 5 10 minute ones to mix & match. Its nice but not as good of a workout as regular pilates- but it might be a good example to watch of what moves they're modifying. It seems like the main difference in prenatal pilates is you prop a pillow or two under you-but I think that's not necessary in 1st or early 2nd trimester-not sure. Good luck!

  • The main difference with prenatal pilates is that you will use pillows or something else to prop your back up a bit so you are not laying directly on your back during exercise which you should avoid after the 1st tri (if I remember correctly). But you should definitely keep doing it! I did pilates before and during my 1st pregnancy and I swear it helped me during labor so much. It keeps you flexible and strengthens your core so much which is critical during pushing. I have no idea if it was just first time luck or if the pilates really did help, but I only pushed 4 times :)
  • I need to get a pregnancy pilates DVD too, my friend still does here after four kids... they now join in:)

  • I take pilates classes at a studio with an instructor. I still do most of the stuff I've been doing the past 2 years, but she has made modifications. I use the reformer, so now I have to use the C-shaped back cradle so I'm nt directly on my back. She also switched to ab exercises that work them without using a contracting motion -- more core based moves instead. She's also careful about me doing balance based moves. Also, I do fewer reps now.
