Anyone a MOPS

I learned about MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) today at a church we visited because they (the friends) were singing there.  I am interested in learning more!

What do you all do?  Is it religion based discussions, do I need to find one that goes with my religious views?  Do you all meet in the morning or evening?  Is DS considered a preschooler yet?

TIA

Re: Anyone a MOPS

  • Mops is not religious based at all, in fact most  of the ladies are not from our church. At our church, it's usually from 9:30-11:45. You do a craft, we always have a guest speaker, fund raising, and luncheons too. And they provide child care for all ages. It's just a great way to meet other moms, have adult interactions, and hopefully make lasting friendship. I just signed up again starting in a few weeks, only taking DD, and DS#2 with me, DS#1 will be in preschool during that time.

  • This will be my first year in it, so I don't know what we do yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

  • So, what age do your children have to be to attend? This sounds fun! I need to look into a local group.

Both MOPS groups I have attended have been religious based, though non-denominational.  It depends on the group.  Both groups I belonged to have included everyone from Catholics to the Holy Rollers Snake Wavers (okay, not really, but some of those gals could get pretty crazy and it wouldn't have shocked me to see them handling snakes).

MOPS is for anyone who is pg, and up until your youngest turns 6 years old.  The child care is provided free of charge.  You may be asked to bring snacks to one meeting a year (or twice).

Hope you all have fun!  I was a part of MOPS for 7 years and served on the steering team of the 2nd group for 2 years.  I no longer attend because I feel like I have outgrown the organization.  I would love to be a part of the school age moms' program, which is new, but not yet in my area.

    Maybe you should start one!

I attended Mommy and Me for 6 months until Alex aged out of it.  I really miss having somewhere I have to go.  My day seems more structured when I get up and go rather than hang at home all day.

What types of crafts do they do?  I dont want to bring home construction paper projects.  Is it useful stuff?

I don't have the time to organize one, unfortunately.

We did a wide variety, from making lip gloss to working with clay to wreaths to making blankets for a teen mother charity to hand tinting black & white photographs to creating picture frames to making apple crisps.

What you make depends on your creative acyivity coordinator.
