Re: Clicky Poll - sunscreen/sunblock

  • Pedi ok'd sunblock, but said he'd prefer we just keep LO out of the sun if possible. We only used it once, and we used the California Baby stuff.

Pedi said zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide only. We have some Blue Lizzard and some Neutrogena Baby. I had to read the labels. Each of these brands has different formulas. We do keep LO out of the sun but we were at the pool and even though she is in the shade, UV rays reflect and it has been way too hot to have her dressed in long sleeves and pants.

  • We just took DD to the beach the first time and I used sunblock (Neutrogena Free and Pure or something like that) on her arms and legs.  I tried to keep her in the shade as much as possible but she wanted to crawl around on the sand so it was hard.  I had a big floppy hat on her so that her face was always shaded, and I didn't use anything on her face.

Sunblock w/ titanium dioxide or zinc oxide is safe from birth. A Bumpie who is a dermatologist posted some great info on that a little while back, and though I know the Bump is not the greatest source of info ever, it made sense. You just want to avoid the kind that uses chemical absorption to protect your skin - for adults too!

This is a really great guide on sunscreen - I wish we could make it a stickie on the Bump boards for summertime:
